Strong international rankings performance continues
 

The University of Wollongong’s standing as one of the world’s top emerging universities has been confirmed following the release of two major rankings of universities worldwide.

 

The QS Top 50 Under 50 ranked UOW as the world’s 12th-best young university. UOW has also continued its surge upwards in the QS World University Rankings, rising 25 places to 218th from its 2015 result of 243rd, placing it among Australia’s top 10 universities.

UOW’s Hong Kong college receives land grant for new flagship campus
 

The University of Wollongong’s college in Hong Kong, the Community College of City University (CCCU), has received a land grant from the Hong Kong Government to establish a new flagship campus. 

 

By enabling the establishment of a new flagship campus away from its current home at the Kowloon Tong campus of City University of Hong Kong, the grant accelerates the college’s progress towards full independence and advances UOW’s vision to bring its outstanding university experience to Hong Kong’s leading non-profit college.

UOW Student heads to heart of US political system
 

This January, at a time when most students are enjoying a break from the rigours of study, Montana Byers will be bound for Washington, DC. The UOW undergraduate student will have a front row seat to the United States political system as the 2017 UOW representative in the Uni-Capitol Washington Intern Program. 

 

The Uni-Capitol Washington Intern Program, which has been running since 1993, matches select Australian university students with congressional offices, providing a chance for students to gain valuable work experience and enhance their studies on an international level.

INTI INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY STUDY TOUR TO UOW CAMPUS
 

UOW welcomed 49 Malaysian students to the University’s Wollongong campus from INTI International University and Colleges. UOW’s partnership with INTI stretches back to the late 1990s’ through a series of teaching collaborations, and now has blossomed into an exclusive partnership agreement.

 

INTI offers UOW Bachelor degrees in Computer Science, Commerce, and Information Technology as well as the UOW Master of Business Administration, with a total enrolment of more than 1500 students in these programs.

 
 
 
 
VICE-CHANCELLOR'S VISITING INTERNATIONAL SCHOLAR AWARDS PROGRAM
 

The third round of the Vice-Chancellor’s Visiting International Scholar Awards (VISA) is now open. The Awards provide funding to support internationally based outstanding researchers to visit UOW (for a period of 2 to 6 months) to enhance the University’s research performance by collaborating on research projects, and building new linkages and connections with high quality international research institutions.

Australian Research Council awards $33.75M for UOW'S Centre of Excellence
 

UOW has been awarded funding to establish a new ARC Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage led by Distinguished Professor Richard (Bert) Roberts, ARC Laureate Fellow and Director of UOW's Centre for Archaeological Science in the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health.

 

The new Centre of Excellence, one of only 9 awarded nationally, will bring together 20 institutions and museums worldwide to unlock the history of Australia, Papua New Guinea and eastern Indonesian from 130,000 years ago until the time of European arrival.

ISNGI JOINS THE INTERNET OF THINGS REVOLUTION
 

UOW's SMART Insfrustructure Facility hosted the International Symposium for Next Generation Infrastructure (ISNGI) earlier this month. We were proud to bring our partners University of Oxford, University College London, Delft University of Technology, and Virginia Tech back to Wollongong for the event.

 

An impressive line up of speakers attended, including Wienke Giezeman, Initiator of The Things Network.The International Symposium for Next Generation Infrastructure is now in its fourth year and will be held in London in 2017.
