European Youth Parliament

Over the weekend of 24-26 January The High School sent a team of three delegates to take part in the EYP (European Youth Parliament) 2019-20 Dublin regional session in Coláiste Éanna. The EYP is an organisation which facilitates
weekend-long sessions for young people across Europe to discuss various topics.  Their aim is to give young people an opportunity to develop skills, share ideas and opinions, and offer the tools necessary to enact change.  Friday evening mainly consisted of team building.  The group was divided into committees which then focused on the key issues: How can the EU address China’s human rights violations while maintaining healthy trade relations? How can the EU ensure the protection of the data of all of its citizens? How can the EU sustain the fisheries sector while protecting marine ecosystems? Saturday commenced with an opening ceremony and the rest of the day was spent outlining the important background to and developing proposed resolutions. Sunday was spent debating the resolutions proposed by the ten committees in a General Assembly followed by a closing ceremony.  I found EYP to be an incredible experience. I feel I learned so much there and would strongly encourage any senior pupils who are interested in participating in the next session to contact Ms Lowry in A24.

Ireland U16 Hockey Selection

Congratulations to Ella and Ben Pasley who have been selected to represent Ireland on the U16 squads for the upcoming series against England in Lilleshall. Head Coach Simon Lowry has said "We are pleased to be able to head to England to play some competitive matches so early in the program.  The group is progressing well in recent sessions and these games will give us a good idea of where the squad is at. It's an exciting trip for many of the group as it will be their first opportunity to represent their country and we're looking forward to seeing what we can do."  We wish our pupils every success in this endeavour.

Leinster Senior Cup

Congratulations to the Senior 1 hockey team who beat Newpark Comprehensive School 4-0 in the first round of the Leinster Hockey Association Senior Cup competition.  The goals were scored by Harry Lynch, Evan Jennings, and Joseph Murphy.  This was the last home game of the year for the senior team. We wish the team every success as they progress through the competition.

HSD Past Pupils and TCD Orchestra

Last weekend a number of our immediate past pupils performed at the Irish College at Leuven with the Trinity Orchestra.  We are looking forward to hearing many of these talented musicians perform at the High School 150th  Anniversary Gala Concert at the National Concert Hall on 5 May.

Simon Community

The Simon Community Home Run raises awareness of and vital funds for the services of Dublin Simon Community to help people on their journey out of homelessness. We are urging the whole school community - staff, parents, pupils, past pupils, and govenors -  to mobilise in the Phoenix Park to walk, jog, and/or run the 5 mile (8 km) course on Saturday 7 March at 10.30 am to support people who are facing homelessness.

HSD Recycling Initiative

It can be difficult to know if food packaging can be recycled or not.  Senior pupils at The High School have created this useful video and poster to help us put our recycling bins to good use.
