As a marketer with their budget taken away, what's the best way to prove my worth to the food business I work for and to continue to grow our brands? By reframing ROI (Return on Investment) to ROI (Return on Involvement). How can you involve customers/prospects now they’re all at home and looking for ideas? How can you build connectivity to your brands without spending money – through connecting, sharing, adding some joy somehow. Your chance to shine by Thinking Different. Q. Any advice on how brands can communicate authentically and with transparency at this time? Start with the prospect/customer, not the Brand. What are your audience/target market worrying about/thinking about? How can your brand help them by giving them a daily happy moment or two? Q. What strategies or advice do you have when you're calm, but your management or leadership are in a panic mindset? Figure out why they are panicking – and provide them with a way forward, a different perspective, and/or some care, genuine empathy and hopefully a solution to their angst. Q. What's your take on the politicalization and a black and white view that you're either about saving lives (health crisis) or concerned about people's livelihood (economic crisis)? Why can't both be true? It’s and/and not either/or. Three issues – Health, Social (isolation) and Economic (unemployment and recession). All three are True and Real. Q. Leadership in a crisis requires data. What is your take on the lack of data on the numerator and the denominator? So that we can actually make informed decisions on when it is even time to discuss the risks of returning to work and opening the economy. We are still flying blind. How does one lead in a data black hole?
Q. Very interested in how you develop a personal purpose - how do you go about doing this? More to come on this from Unfiltered. Stay Tuned. Q. With regards to the current pandemic. Nothing should go back to normal. Normal wasn't working. If we go back to the way things were, we have lost the lesson. What are the lessons that we need to learn? How can we move to a better world, not trying to go back to what we had or were doing? We need to Repurpose our lives and our businesses. Everything starts with Purpose. Q. Given most leaders in NZ have never experienced anything like this, what’s the fastest way to up skill them right now and get them 'match fit'? There is no silver bullet:
should give you a solid foundation for skill development. Q. Traditionally at a time like this, companies drop both advertising , R&D and training - your thoughts on this? Defer, not drop. Think:
Q. You mentioned a number of C-suite roles in the stages of Survive (CFO, CPO / Head of HR), Revive (CEO), and Thrive (CMO, COO)... but none of these people can be effective without effective communications leadership, coaching, and management - where's the role of your Chief Communications Officer? The Head of HR is the Chief Medical Officer. The Chief Comms Officer is the CEO – every day speaking to the Leadership and wider. Q. Your thoughts on this as a time to ask why are we doing this (personally, corporately, etc.), what business are we in, does it matter? 100%. It is exactly the right time to ask these questions. The answer is a Purpose on a Page and a Personal Purpose on a Page. Q. What do you see as the most valuable personal skills to be developing as young leaders navigating a crisis for the first time? And what's the fastest way to do this?
