New StudentsScience: Day 1It was great to meet so many of you last Wednesday. We hope you had a great day. If you are still feeling confused, check out the Getting Started in Science website. If you missed out on the event, don't worry, Science: Day1 will be running again on Thurs 16 Feb. Unimelb 101: Undergraduate OrientationGet involved in the huge range of events during the University’s Orientation which runs Mon 13 Feb - Fri 3 March. You can attend course advice sessions, join clubs and societies, and connect with support services. Register via the website. There are also subject orientation sessions running on Tues 21 Feb for first year Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, as well as an Academic Skills session on Getting Ready for Studying Science. Faculty of Science Peer Mentoring ProgramWe invite you to join our Science Peer Mentoring Program to receive advice, encouragement and support from 2nd or 3rd year Bachelor of Science students. First year students can register to be matched with a mentor here. Moving from regional areas to Melbourne?Hear from a panel of graduate students who have made the move from regional Victoria to Metro Melbourne. Ucan2 Volunteer mentor programUcan2 provides support for young people (16-24 years) who are new to Australia and from a refugee or migrant background. Become a volunteer leader for the organisation’s weekly group activity program. To find out more and get involved visit the website.Mindfulness Course at the UoM Psychology ClinicMindfulness meditation uses breathing, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind. Two six-week mindfulness courses will be running at the UoM Psychology Clinic in North Melbourne on Mondays from 12:00pm - 2:00pm and Thursdays from 4:00pm - 6:00pm commencing early Feb. University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS), United Nations BangkokThe USLS is a week-long Leadership Conference in Social Development for young leaders from all over the world. It is being held Tues 1 Aug - Mon 7 Aug. Learn what it means to give back to the community and be challenged to respond to the needs of the marginalised, with works of kindness and unconditional service. *Please note this symposium overlaps with Semester 2 teaching and assessment, so interested students will need to manage their studies around this opportunity.
