11 April 2017 | Week 15 No Images? Click here Weekly UpdateMeasles outbreak in western Sydney Anyone born during or since 1966 should have two doses of vaccine (at least four weeks apart). For young children, the measles vaccine is recommended at 12 months and again at 18 months of age. NSW Health offers free MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine through GPs for people born during or after 1966 with no records of having received two doses of MMR vaccine. It is safe to have the vaccine more than twice, so people who are unsure should be vaccinated. People who are planning to travel overseas should be vaccinated against measles before departure to reduce their risk of contracting measles and bringing the disease back to Australia. For further Information: The HealthPathways Sydney Measles pathway has recently undergone full review. Practitioners are encouraged to view it at the HealthPathways Sydney website (Username: connected, Password: healthcare). Could your practice benefit from extra support in cancer screening?
