Graham’s design will be printed on t-shirts that will be worn by students of every grade level on the day of the event. Thank you to all who participated in the competition, and great work! Jog-A-Thon PledgesThis year, an online fundraising system will be used to request and make pledges for the Jog-A-Thon, making it super easy to support UDA and our students! Students should create their individual fundraising accounts here by entering their name and email address, and following the instructions on the same page. Parents/guardians may help our youngest students set up accounts as well. Once the account is created, the system emails pledge requests to the student’s family and friends, and enables them to make secure credit card donations online. Please call 1-888-598-7510 for assistance if needed. UDA Foundation UpdateThank you to all of our families, corporate sponsors, and volunteers who have supported our fundraising efforts this year. STEAM Staffing UpdateWe would like to congratulate Ms. Cranford on obtaining a full-time teaching position with another school, and thank her for her contribution to UDA as a long-term STEAM substitute! We are in the midst of a thorough interview process in order to find the best candidate for this position, and will share more details soon. Dismissal ReminderDaily dismissal is a busy time, and to ensure the safety of our students, it is important to keep distractions to a minimum. Please do not bring pets into the parking lot or school at this time. The introduction of pets onto campus can not only cause distractions, but also induce allergic reactions. Online Uniform OrdersThe online uniform store is now open for winter orders! Place an online order now through February 5, 2018, and your order will ready for pick-up at UDA on the afternoon of February 23, 2018. In addition to UDA brand outerwear, students are also permitted to wear hoodies, sweaters, and jackets that are free of any patterns or imprinted logos, in solid colors. Communicable Disease AwarenessUDA follows the San Diego Unified School District’s policies regarding communicable diseases. We appreciate your cooperation and continued support in ensuring the health and safety of our students. The Flu As you likely know, the flu is more severe and widespread in San Diego County than in previous years. Even if your child has had the flu vaccine, it is important to seek medical attention for your child if he/she experiences flu-like symptoms. Individuals who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms: fever or feeling feverish, chills, cough, headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, vomiting, and diarrhea. If your child becomes ill, keep him/her home – only returning to school after he/she has been fever-free for 24 hours or your physician indicates the child is no longer contagious to others. Please review this guide for additional information on the flu. Lice Head lice are small, tan colored insects that survive on the blood they draw from a human scalp. An itchy head is a common symptom of head lice. They are spread from person to person by direct contact with hair or by sharing combs, hats, and other clothing of an infected individual. If live head lice are found on the scalp of a student while at school, he or she may stay at school for the remainder of the day. Parents/guardians will be notified and should seek treatment for their child. Upon return to school, the child’s scalp must be inspected by school personnel. If any live lice are present, the child may not stay at school, and should seek additional treatment. An infected child may only return to school once live lice are no longer present. Please review this fact sheet for additional information on head lice. Performing ArtsThe shelves and racks are going up soon in the new costume and prop shop, and Mr. Baldan is looking for help stocking them! Costumes in a variety of sizes, props of all kinds, age appropriate scripts, and theater books are needed; storage space is limited, so handheld sized props are preferable. Donations can be delivered directly to the “Stage.” Thank you for your support! Art ClubArt Club students are working on capturing real life images in their own artwork.
