If the moon were only 1 pixel, the difference between lasagna and bodies, adorable baby elephants, and possibly the coolest goal we've seen. Plus even more. |
It’s already Sunday!?
My history major failed me this week when why_rob_y asked if there was any historical precedent for a serial killer targeting one of their investigators (like they always do on TV). But that’s what /r/askhistorians is for.
I was never really good at math, and now I wish someone has just told me about triacontagons! Did you know there was an entire reddit community just for mathpics? I did not. Get this in front of someone who says they hate math—I spent way too much time playing with it.
Basically, this week on reddit really made me feel a lot smarter, but still not as smart as a border collie.
There’s a ton of great stuff below, so I’m just going to let you keep reading. After you’re done, there’s also the latest episode of the Upvoted podcast and the fabulous AMA with the “suspicious onlooker” it featured. And as always, you can share your feedback in /r/upvoted.
That is one of the coolest things I’ve found on reddit in (almost) a decade. |
The AskHistorians community did their best and found a whole bunch of interesting examples that kind of, sort of, almost qualify. But apparently this just isn’t as much of a thing as Hollywood and the publishing industry would have us believe. On a positive note, you’re probably safe if you’re hunting a serial killer.
Well, unless maybe it’s a baby elephant taking its very first steps, searching for a human’s trunk, or playing with a hanging tire.
Don’t f*** the protocol up, or the SC will start lagging.
I finally figured that out about three months ago. Took me 27 years to understand that. Still baffles me but at least now I can reply in the expected manner. |
But then they would be lying to you. Or you lying to them. If either of you is not fine. |
I can understand that a lot of neurotypical social rituals are actually helpful for keeping the peace and saving face, but the non-literal “how are you” is just a load of confusing bullshit. I wish people would just stop doing it. |
Sadly, turns out that’s an illegal move in hockey so it didn’t count, but we’re still impressed by this player’s serious skills.
The loss of a loved one is one of the worst things anyone can experience and something we all fear. But suddenly being shouldered with a huge amount of financial and legal responsibility can add a terrible amount of stress and difficulty to an already difficult time when you’re grieving. Read some great advice to Cairo91 on next steps during this hard time from the personal finance community and especially EroticVelour.
And Cairo91, we’re really sorry for your loss. Best wishes to you and your sister.
When a teen came to reddit asking for suggestions for his paper on aerospace innovation, airshowfan came through, describing tons of exciting developments in the industry complete with links to learn even more. We learned about solar-powered airplanes, electric airplanes, and fuel-cell-powered airplanes. There are also tiltrotor airplane/helicopter hybrids that are becoming available for civilian use, reusable rockets on the way, and a jet that can break the sound barrier in a vertical climb. And a bunch more. Thanks, airshowfan!
Want to get an idea of how RIDICULOUSLY HUGE the solar system is? This interactive map is scaled so that the moon is the size of a single pixel. Turns out, there’s a whole lot of space in space, and you’ll need to do a whole lot of scrolling to get to Pluto. But it’s an entertaining journey, and it’s also mind-blowingly awesome to even begin to comprehend something on this scale.
