Welcome to Mitchell Shire eNews. 13 August 2021

We've been calling on you to help us shape Mitchell for the next 30 years as part of our Community Vision. Throughout March and April, we put some questions to our community – what do you love about your community, what do you wish for in the future, and what's important to you as we grow and change.
Thanks to everybody who shared their thoughts with us.

Based on the nearly 1500 responses we received, we've prepared some draft themes, focus areas for each theme and some possible vision statements.

We're checking in to see what you think of the themes and to help draft a vision statement.

Join us for an online presentation at 12pm on Friday 27 August.

COVID SUPPORT Reach out for relief

As businesses and services reopen and people return to work and school, it's important we keep in touch with family and friends to see how they're coping and reach out for help ourselves if we need it.

There are a number of financial support packages available for businesses to help them recover from the most recent lockdown:

  • COVID-19 Disaster Payments
  • Business Costs Assistance Program
  • Licensed Hospitality Venue Fund
  • Small Business COVID Hardship Fund
  • Rent relief for commercial tenants

Wellbeing support can be found on the Victorian Government's website and through Beyond Blue, the Partners in Wellbeing Helpline offers personal support, business advice and financial counselling for small business owners

NEW RESIDENTS PAGE Information for new locals

From what day to put your bins out and how to register your pets, to applying for kindergarten and finding things to see and do, moving to a new area can be daunting.

To answer some of these questions, we've launched a page for new residents on our website to help our newest community members settle into Mitchell.

The page also has information on preparing on your property for the fire season, local laws, library memberships and how to contact Council.

QUARRY UPDATE

Mitchell Shire Council will host a community information session about a proposed stone extraction quarry at 175 Northern Highway, Wallan.

The application has been ‘called-in’ by the Minister for Planning who will be the decision-maker for the application. Mitchell Shire Council continues to oppose the application due to the impact it will have on our community and surrounds.

We’re holding a public meeting to share information about the quarry planning process and take you through the next steps of getting involved should you wish to do so.

  • 6.30pm, Thursday 9 September, Wallan Multi-purpose Community Centre.

All welcome, but numbers are limited due to COVID restrictions. Registrations are recommended to secure your place and to be kept up to date on any changes.
