Happy Tuesday, everyone! Here we are in August and, like many families in Arizona, we're celebrating our kids going BACK TO SCHOOL! Hooray! Aubrey and Sydney are both back at it this week, much to their chagrin, but they're looking forward to seeing their friends they missed the last few months and making new ones. We had a great summer together, and even wrapped it up with a bow in San Diego last week, so I count us as truly blessed. I was in San Diego for a conference and had my beautiful bride meet me out there with our lovely girls. It was a fun filled few days of sun, boogie boarding, virgin piña coladas, pool, sunset dinners, and I even fit in a few conference calls and meetings. It's amazing how patient the girls are with me working when I'm watching them play in the pool. That's the way I
WANT to work! 75 degree weather, watching my girls swim with new friends they make, and I close out deals with our clients. Pretty darn awesome!
I'm back in the heat now! I have to admit, the hot just "feels" like home. Yes, San Diego was super pleasant and amazing, but when I was unloading luggage from the car in 109 degree heat (thankfully I was in the shade a little) it felt GOOD! I smiled as I finished unloading everything, and smiled even more as I got everything inside RIGHT before I was about to break into a sweat. Perfect timing into the air conditioning! I have to admit that I'm happy we're on the tail-end of summer, though. We're ready for some cooler weather!
Now I'm back in the office and working on plans to make sure we
end 2019 strong. I've got less than 5 months to meet our financial and company goals. So far we are on track but now that we've got 30 people on the team, it takes everyone's focus on everything from sales to expenses. I was talking with a partner at a large marketing firm at the conference about keeping expenses under control and he said, "Scott, it's death by a thousand little cuts. You have to keep those expenses in check, or you'll be sitting there wondering how your company increased in revenue by so much, but you don't have any profit to show for it!" When you're leading, you have to keep the big picture in mind, while also checking in on the itty-bitty details. Get those details aligned, then get back focused on high-level stuff. Juggle juggle juggle those priorities!
OK, on to more lawsuit and
settlement updates:
That's all for now! Make it a GREAT week!
Warm Regards,
Scott Hardy
