Space, the final frontier

A word from...

Vicky Rosin, Programme Director

What a fantastic and special time ESOF was for Manchester, the UK and Europe. Following on from the UK's significant result in the referendum, it was great to see the collaborative spirit that drives science forward very much alive amongst the delegates of the conference. We have every confidence that the UK will continue to work alongside and support our European colleagues in scientific advancement in the coming years.

Now that the rush of the conference is over, we have had some time to reflect upon the great sessions, speakers and delegates that came through our doors here in Manchester. We are now in the final stages of ESOF 2016 and ready to hand over to Toulouse for the next iteration of the conference. Below you will find highlights from the conference in content, images and videos as well as the chance to have your own say on what you liked (and what could be improved) about the conference.

Thank you all for your support for ESOF 2016. We couldn't have done it without our sponsors, the support of The University of Manchester and more importantly, you. Why not relive ESOF with our short summary film of the conference.

Images are a great way to capture the spirit of an event and to remember all of the great occasions that occur when people come together to discuss the latest research and innovation in science.

We have now uploaded images from ESOF to our Flickr account which you can view here. All of our images are licensed under a Creative Commons 2.0 licence so you are free to use them in any content that you create that is related to the conference, as long as appropriate credit is given.

Watch ESOF again

Similar to our images, video footage taken at ESOF is continually being added to YouTube. All of the major events including the Opening and Closing ceremonies have been recorded along with popular and keynote sessions, just in case you missed them first time round.

We are happy for you to embed our videos from YouTube if you are creating content around the conference and please do feel free to share this with friends, family and colleagues.

#ManchesterMoth

You might have noticed the moth fluttering around the venue at ESOF. It also made an appearance in our Closing Ceremony. But what's the story behind this understated, yet beautiful creature?

Henry McGhie, Head of Collections & Curator of Zoology at the Manchester Museum explains more in this article on the moth.

You can watch the moth video again here and soon you will be able to follow the moth's story  as it  continues to flit around Manchester in the lead up to the Science Festival at the end of October.
