Identifying and responding to the abuse of older people Every year, one in twenty older people in our community experience abuse at the hands of people they know and trust. Only one in five of these cases is identified and reported. The CESPHN Aged Care team is a member of the Sutherland Shire Collaborative on Abuse of Older People in Community Care who recently organised a seminar for eighty in-home and community based aged care workers and health professionals. The aim of the seminar was to increase awareness of the issue. Obesity management workshop With 25% of children and 63% of adults in Australia afflicted by weight problems, our nation's health professionals have an urgent need to become experts in the identification and treatment of overweight and obese patients. World obesity experts from the University of Sydney’s Boden Institute are pleased to offer an exciting two day professional training workshop that will bring health professionals up to speed on the latest practical ways to recognise when weight is a problem for their patients, and what action to take. Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service The Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service is a free, confidential phone coaching service that supports participants in reaching personalised lifestyle goals. The service offers six coaching programs that are tailored to meet the different needs of its patients. All Things Aged Care Forum On 12 August 2017, the Aged Care Team successfully coordinated the "All Things Aged Care Forum". The aim of the event was to provide a concise clinical update on a range of topics along with information relating to local initiatives and supportive programs to assist health practitioners. Launch of NewAccess On 27 October 2017, CESPHN was a part of the launch of NewAccess alongside beyondblue and Bolton Clarke. NewAccess is a free service that has been funded by CESPHN, developed by beyondblue and is being delivered by Bolton Clarke. It aims to help those with mild to moderate mental health challenges. Partnerships workshop This October, CESPHN held a Partnerships workshop attended by many of the organisations and people we partner with. In attendance were a diverse group of close to 80 people including consumers, local NGOs, GPs, allied health professionals, local health district and network, university and private health insurance.
