A New Look For The High School Library

Over the Christmas holidays the Library underwent a total refurbishment. The Library closed for two days prior to the end of term and was completely emptied: shelving, desks, carpet and even the ceiling were removed.  The space was redecorated with new carpet, new ceiling, new lights, and a fresh coat of paint.  Then shelves, desks, chairs, and soft seating were all installed.  On Wednesday 10 January our brand new Library was re-opened for all to see.  Comments received to date include:
"I didn't realise the room was so big!"
"Look at all the light that comes through the windows."
"I love the bright colours and the new desks."
"The Library looks like a really good bookshop, like one of those ones that serves coffee."
"I just love coming into the Library now, it's so cool."
Staff and pupils are extremely positive about the Library's new look.  The pupils are making use of the extended seating spaces; reading on the soft stools, sitting in small groups around the round tables, or studying quietly in the study booths.  I am looking forward to the Library being used for a greater variety of activities and hope it provides years of pleasure and purpose for all current and future pupils of The High School.

DCU Lego League Leinster Victory

Congratulations to members of The High School Lego team who won first prize for Best Research Project and were awarded second place overall in the inaugural DCU Lego League Leinster final.  The event aims to encourage pupils to develop skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in a fun and innovative way.  Thank you to all those who kindly donated Lego to the club during the year.  It has been put to very good use.  We wish all members of the team every success in future competitions.

East Leinster Schools Cross Country

Congratulations to The High School pupils who participated in the East Leinster School Cross Country competition last week.  It was a challenging and hilly course in Rathdrum, County Wicklow, but our pupils we undeterred.  We congratulate Roseanne McCullough and Patrick Tallon who were placed 5th and 4th thereby qualifying for the Leinster Championships.   They both displayed fine front-running performances.  We wish them both well in the Leinster Championships in Santry Demesne.

Buenos Aires Tour

Our Senior Cup squad spent an afternoon at UCD last Friday with pupils from from Buenos Aires Cricket and Rugby Club.  The matches were fast and tough, and the teams loved every minute.
