Green Schools Expo

On 22 February members of the Green Schools Committee went to the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) to attend the Green Schools Expo.  There were lots of things to do.  We took turns on a stationery bicycle which generated enough electricity to power a light bulb.  Then some of us made bird-feeders with recycled material.  After lunch we spent some time visiting many of the stalls that were there.  We wrote some tips on how to save water and filed a news report.  We had such an enjoyable, fun day.

HSD PPU Donation

Many thanks to HSD past pupil Robert (Robin) Cole who visited the school this week to donate his collection of rocks and fossils to our Geology Department.  After completing his Leaving Certificate in 1980, Mr Cole studied Geology at Trinity College, Dublin and embarcked on a successful career working as a geologist on oil rigs off the coast of Norway and Denmark.  We were delighted to receive this generous donation from a past pupil.

COMPASS Interactive Event

The High School is hosting a COMPASS interactive event in the refurbished Library at 11.00 am on Saturday 10 March. HSD PA Award Winners

The HSD Parents' Association is pleased to recognise the Green School Committee with a PA award for their ongoing activity across environmental areas and contribute to their very worthwhile cause.  They are a committed bunch, with great ideas, so we look forward to seeing what they plan to tackle next!

Rugby Win

Congratulations to the Form 2 rugby team who played a fast and furious game against their opponents,
Cistercian College, Roscrea on Wednesday, winning 42-7.  What a fine way to end the season.

Lino Projects - The City

Here is a sample of reduction lino prints that some of our Form 3 pupils completed recently.  Pupils used a method of block printing in which each layer and each colour is printed on top of the last.  We are delighted with the results.
