Application call for iGEM Video & Remote Technology Committee

March 20, 2020

Dear iGEM Community,

I hope you are all safe and well. Some of you may know me through After iGEM as the iGEM Ambassador to Europe, but today I am reaching out to all of you as part of iGEM HQ - where I will be leading plans of video implementation and remote participation in the competition.

As you are seeing all around the globe, remote participation is becoming a large part of our daily lives. In times of necessary social distancing, iGEM teams everywhere are still meeting online and finding ways to continue their work. We are inspired by you. Your continued passion and support is keeping this community going.

Coincidentally, one of the ambitions behind organizing a bigger Giant Jamboree in Paris 2021 has focused on plans to create team / project videos and enable remote participation for all of you who can’t be there in person. In light of the recent situation, it feels natural to start bringing these plans to reality even sooner – for the 2020 Giant Jamboree in Boston.

We are working hard on offering a possibility for full remote iGEM participation everywhere - at the Jamboree and during the year. We will do so by supporting you in:

  • Virtual iGEM Meetups and events: help in organizing, providing equipment and material for you to use to still meet and collaborate with fellow teams
  • Community connection: offering help and community connection with our ambassador team in every region and sub-region
  • Awareness campaigns: helping you spread your message and ideas for coping with this crisis
  • Videos: setting up support in filming and creating project promotion, engineering, and human practice videos that would replace usual presentation setting
  • Video promotion: Hosting, amplifying news and sharing your project videos

We are forming a Video & Remote Technology Committee
that will work on all of these goals.

Are you interested in helping bring this new reality to the iGEM Competition? We are looking for committee members with passion, skills, or experience in these topics:

  • Remote & virtual technology
  • Video filming & editing
  • Science Communication
  • Art & Science

Committee work will typically take an average of 3-5 hours/week. If you are interested in helping bring this new reality to the iGEM Competition, please fill in the application form below by Friday, April 3rd. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask us at video [AT] igem [DOT] org
