Regional community news The Year in Review As we begin the year 2017 we thought we'd take some time to highlight a few of the key edtech news items from the past year and more importantly thank you all for being supportive of EdTech Asia and the education innovation ecosystem throughout Asia and beyond. Looking back at the last year, our pivotal moment was the success of our first regional summit in Bangkok, Thailand. The event featured 80+ speakers, 26 sessions, 4 workshops, an evening networking party, and 300+ attendees including leading education investors, thought leaders, and founders of over 60 of the top edtech companies and startups from across our region. We eagerly look forward to the coming year as we continue to evolve into a regional platform that serves as a catalyst for strategic growth while embracing collective impact within the education sector. Regional EdTech Highlights iFutureWorks Goes Global Beijing based iFutureWorks and ZMTB have launched a new international edtech incubator at the conclusion of the annual Global Education Technology Summit (GET) hosted by JMD EDU. Zuckerberg Fund Enters Asia The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative made their first significant edtech investment in the region with a 50mil USD backing of India's Byju's, a mobile app that helps children to learn math and science. EdTech Events, Workshops, & Contests 2. EdTech Asia's next community meetup is scheduled for January 25th in Bangkok, Thailand. The free event will discuss emerging technologies in education, specifically VR. More information about the speaker, program, and registration can be found here. 4. Global open innovation program Yidan Prize is now open for nominations until early 2017. The world's largest education prize will be awarded at a ceremony in Hong Kong in late 2017. Startup Weekend Education Phnom Penh TechStars community program Startup Weekend Education Phnom Penh was recently hosted at the newly completed boutique office space Raintree in the heart of the Cambodian financial district. This year's winning team offered a platform for alternative learning experiences for k-12 students through experiential learning in the outdoors. EdTech Asia Summit 2017 The EdTech Asia Summit 2017 "Save the Date" official announcement will be made in mid-January with ticket sales to commence in early February.
