Noodles & Pasta: Different Yet the SameBy Mentee Alum Kathryn GioiosaI wrote this piece to reflect on my favorite tradition every year—my family's Christmas Eve dinners, which demonstrate my multi-cultural background through the food that we eat.
Karina & Ellen: Mentorship for Life“My most rewarding experience was meeting my mentor Ellen. She's been super encouraging and helpful during a year that's been filled with a lot of change and uncertainty.” —Mentee Karina I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact that mentorship can have on a young person's life. Now through December 31, I will match every donation dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000 total so we can double our impact. Together, let's be the catalysts for positive change in the lives of these young mentees. Your contribution, no matter
the size, will make a difference. —Ellen Archer, Mentor & Board Chair, Girls Write Now

INSPIRED BY A FRIDAY NIGHT SALONGlasshouse Fever DreamBy Mentee Michelle Seucan I attended a Friday Night Salon entitled "Seeing Poetry in the Dark: Night Logic and Haunting Images with Gabrielle Bates," where the opening exercise was to spend five minutes writing a poem inspired by the title "Dance Party at the Public Glasshouse." So I wrote my poem about a party girl experiencing parties and euphoric nights as a strange fever dream in a mirror house.
INSPIRED BY A BIC PARTNER WORKSHOPMethod ActingBy Mentee Alum & Staff Member Julia Andresakis I can trace the inception of this odd little piece back to a workshop with BIC employees about interviewing. The opening lines prompt highlighted some unusual, jokey jobs like "professional sleeper" and "iceberg mover," which got me thinking about a ridiculous job taken to the extreme.
INSPIRED BY A COMMUNITY CHATThank You, Dr. Mary Beck: Meet the Trailblazing Ukrainian American Councilwoman Who Saved My FamilyBy Mentor Vera Sirota I had the privilege to participate in Sheena Daree Miller's Community Chat called "Chronicling Our Lives" in honor of Women's History Month. This workshop inspired me to record the story of my family's connection to Councilwoman Marusia Beck. My resolve to complete this piece was strengthened with Russia's invasion of Ukraine. My greatest hope is for all refugees to encounter the generosity of a person like Councilwoman Marusia Beck in their time of need. I also would like to find any of her living relatives so I can express my gratitude for what Marusia did for our family.
