AMSI Optimise 2018
Returning in 2018, AMSI Optimise is an annual networking and research-training event that aims to strengthen mathematical optimisation research engagement and its applications across industry. The symposium features expert and end-user talks, international guest speakers, collaboration showcases, industry challenge sessions and tutorials. 18-22 June. More information here.
2018 Winter School in Mathematical & Computational Biology
The series of winter schools is designed to introduce bioinformatics, mathematical and computational biology to advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers and others working in the fields of biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, information technology, complex systems analysis, and chemical and medical sciences and engineering. The event is structured to present one important topic each day. Each day will consist of a mixture of extended lectures, software demos, and interactive discussions. This half-day free workshop will discuss the principles of producing graphs to enhance the quality of your thesis. It will cover a range of software packages available to University of Melbourne graduate research students. Learn to swim in semester 2
The Water Safety Program is a FREE aquatics education initiative provided by MU Sport. The program is tailored to students who have never had the opportunity to learn about swimming and water safety. The program is taught over 10 weeks during semester, and includes a beach visit with Life Saving Victoria. We are now taking expressions of interest for Semester 2. Quantum boost for medical imaging
Professor Lloyd Hollenberg and team discuss the future of medical imaging. Physicists have demonstrated how, using light, a diamond layer and quantum mechanics, they could potentially “light up” our molecular insides for more powerful MRIs. Read more here.
The genes that turn malaria into a killer
Dr Michael Duffy discusses the changing disease that is malaria. A small group of proteins are associated with the most severe strains of malarial infection and their discovery is a step towards a vaccine against the deadliest forms of the disease. Read more here.
