Thank You, Ms. Gilbert"How lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard"--Winnie the Pooh. UDA is forever grateful to Ms. Gilbert for her years of service to our community. Ms. Gilbert is an incredible teacher and leader to our students, staff, and families. This Wednesday will be Ms. Gilbert's last day with us as she will be moving to North Carolina. We want to wish her the best of luck; the students and staff at her new school are so lucky to have her! Gala Ticket DonationsThe Gala is less than a week away, and if you haven’t already purchased tickets, they are available here. We also appreciate sponsorships for staff members. K-5 You and Me DanceJoin Girl Scout Troop 4159 (13 amazing UDA 5th graders) as they host UDA’s first You and Me Dance on Friday, April 14 from 5:30-8pm. We encourage all elementary students (k-5) to get dressed up and bring a guardian for a date night to dance the night away. It can be Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, Daughter/Mom, Father/Son, Uncle/Nephew, Grandma/Grandchild… any combination is awesome. The more the merrier! Tickets are $5 per person ($10 per couple), and can be purchased here. All students must be accompanied by a guardian, and the guardian can accompany multiple children if needed. Tickets include snacks, photo booth, and dancing with friends. All proceeds will go to support Troop 4159's upcoming San Francisco trip where they participate in a ceremony in which they cross the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as their Bronze service project to help local homeless children. A Message from our Network ParentsOn Tuesday, February 28, the Network Executive board met and discussed a number of items. We discussed the financial contribution our community events have made and just how easy it is to give back to the school while having a good time. We also discussed furthering communication with the UDA Board of Trustees by having a regular presence at their meetings. We are also still looking for nominees for the Vice President and Secretary positions and brainstormed about some new committees for the next school year, including a potential community outreach committee and a beautification team. We hope you enjoyed participating in our FUNdraising efforts this year! THANK YOU to our families who made time to participate. The graphic above illustrates the amount of money we have raised towards UDA's project supplies so far. Having reviewed our accomplishments as we look forward to next year, we turned our attention to finishing out this school year with some amazing events. We hope you have all bought your tickets! The Golf Tournament in May is shaping up to be a great family event with a lot to do even for those of us that have never swung a club. We also plan on making this year’s Earth Day special by participating in the March for Science on April 22 (more info to come), and we’re also planning an End-of-Year Bonanza to for the entire UDA community before we all head off for our summer adventures. You can view the meeting’s minutes and keep up to date with all of the Network sponsored events by visiting our page on the UDA website . Of course, don’t forget that we can’t accomplish any of this without you, so please consider joining by nominating yourself or another for a position. Pennies for PatientsStarting Monday, February 27, UDA is participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Pennies for Patients program, a service-learning program that gives students the unique experience of working together to help raise awareness and funds in honor of thousands of children and adults fighting against blood cancers. We are asking that everyone (students, staff, parents, etc.) at UDA join in this effort of raising awareness and collecting funds to benefit the mission of LLS, which is “to find cures for blood cancers and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.” Your child may leave the donation with his/her classroom teacher. Thank you for supporting LLS and UDA's participation in the Pennies program! Together, we can reach our goal of $1,000.
