The Importance of the Paris Agreement
|
Our country has a long history of innovative leadership to address our world’s most pressing challenges. The United States’ efforts to reduce carbon pollution, create a low carbon economy, and adapt to a changing climate will keep all people healthy, create economic opportunity for all sectors and citizens, and ensure all our children have an opportunity to thrive. By withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, the federal government’s position of global leadership is greatly weakened.
Our country has sectors that are strongly committed to these goals and continuing to accelerate climate action. Higher education will continue to be an integral part of the nation’s climate leadership. Across research, teaching, and operations, from presidents to faculty to staff and students, the whole of the higher education enterprise intersects with this global climate challenge. We will continue to leverage higher education’s resources for the good of humanity. We are still in.

Community Resilience Building with Eastern Connecticut State University
by Ruby Woodside
|
One of the questions we hear most from schools that are beginning implementation of the Climate or Resilience Commitment is: what does it mean to work with my community? The Commitments ask signatories to reach beyond the campus boundary and build climate resilience with the surrounding neighborhood, town, or city. The first step in doing so is to complete a campus-community resilience assessment.
In March, we worked with Eastern Connecticut State University, the Town of Windham Connecticut, and The Nature Conservancy to pilot a climate resilience workshop. We used the Community Resilience Building guide, a resource designed by The Nature Conservancy....Read More
