The City continues to liaise with the State Government over the re-opening of Castray Esplanade, and we are hopeful that Castray Esplanade will re-open prior to the closure of Gladstone Street. If this is the case, southbound traffic will be re-directed along Castray into Salamanca Place. The project team has scheduled these works during the school holidays to minimise impacts on road users. Salamanca Place General project update Stormwater main construction Pedestrian Improvements In the images below you can see the new curved wall encircling the Abel Tasman monument. The wall is architecturally designed to provide a sitting space for the community, perhaps to enjoy a lunch break, a coffee, or to simply enjoy the site of the new pedestrian plaza - more on that in a minute! The wall is not quite finished yet and we can't wait to share with you the final product as soon as the finishing touches have been applied. Construction of the pedestrian plaza is well and truly underway and the project team have wonderful visions of how this space will be used by the community. Currently, the area has been graded and the sub-base laid, in preparation for final surfacing treatments. There's not much to see just yet but we have included some photos of progress so far.
