Thank you to Ms. Mendoza, Ms. Buie, and Mr. Chapman for organizing this amazing showcase of student talent, and to the following helping hands for making this event a success: Nick Weiss (sound), Roy Leyva (photos), Sebastian Sidor and Laila del Rio (8th grade hosts), the Parsons Family (piano), and last but not least, the UDA Stars! There wouldn't be a show without the talent! K-5 Field DayDate: Wednesday, June 7 Get ready for a day of fun in the sun, a bit of competition, and lots of Otter Pops at this year’s K-5 Field Day! Kinder and 1st grade will be taking school busses to the park beginning at 8:15, while 2nd-5th will be walking or organizing parent rides. Please make sure your child(ren) arrive to school on time. Here, students examined the process of product invention from research and development, to product testing, and to manufacturing using robotics. They even had the chance to speak with real engineers about their patent process. The students had a great time and are excited to apply some of the innovative ideas learned from this visit to their own Invention Convention. Fifth GradeFifth Grade was recently visited by Miss Leila, who provided a lesson on art techniques. The students enjoyed this opportunity to explore the use of pastels and paints in their artistic creations. Sixth GradeLast week, 6th graders learned about Chicano Park and its rich history, which directly correlates with their study of social justice this trimester. A professor from USD and a few Chicano Park Steering Committee members provided a tour of the murals and shared their perspective and passion for strong, active communities. SpanishAfter sending symbolic monarchs to Mexico as part of the students’ Journey North project, 5th grade received butterflies from all over North America! Find out more about the project and where their butterflies landed here. Sixth grade's Lotería projects are on display in the first floor hallway for your viewing pleasure! The students created their own personal versions of the famous Mexican game as a way to learn new words and practice gender of nouns in Spanish. Visual ArtsFourth graders are designing t-shirt logos in preparation for their Invention Convention this week. Art ClubDuring the final art club meeting of the year, students participated in 6 minute drawings as artists and models. The student models were very inspiring, and the student artists did a fantastic job capturing their personalities!
