Federal election commitments in Mitchell Shire
It's been a busy week on the Federal election campaign trail in Mitchell with a visit from the Prime Minister, a pledge from the Coalition and Independent candidate to the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub and a Labor commitment for Greenhill Reserve oval upgrades in Wallan. We've prepared a snapshot from the week.

PM VISITS BEVERIDGE
Freight terminal on agenda
Greater Beveridge Community Centre hosted a visit from Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Liberal Candidate for McEwen Richard Welch today. The PM re-affirmed support for the Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal which was funded in the Federal budget.

GREENHILL OVAL
$515k Labor commitment
An upgrade of Greenhill Recreation Reserve’s lower oval is a step closer with Federal Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell committing $515,000 for upgrades if re-elected as part of a Labor Federal Government.

WELLBEING HUB
$10m joint Libs and Nats pledge
Federal Minister for Families and Social Services Senator Anne Ruston announced a joint Federal Election commitment from the Liberal Party and the National Party for $10 million towards the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub.
Liberal Party Candidate for Nicholls Steve Brooks, Nationals Candidate for Nicholls Sam Birrell and Liberal Party Candidate for McEwen Richard Welch joined the Minister to announce the funding in Seymour on Sunday.

Independent support for hub
Independent candidate for Nicholls, Rob Priestly has thrown his support behind the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub with an election commitment to support the need to secure funding from the Federal Government for the project.

SEYMOUR RESOURCE RECOVERY CENTRE
Sod turned for start of $8 million project
Construction has begun on Seymour's new permanent Resource Recovery Centre.
The new centre will provide much better access and make it easier for people to recycle items rather than them ending up in landfill.
The new centre is the first investment to form part of the future Hilldene Employment Precinct.
The $8 million project is funded by Mitchell Shire Council ($7.4 million), the Victorian Government’s Resource Recovery Infrastructure Fund ($500,000) and the Victorian Government's E-Waste Infrastructure Fund ($100,000).

CHANGES AT BROADFORD CENTRE
We're partnering with the Victorian Government to refurbish and redesign the Broadford Customer and Library Services Centre to create more library space and better access for customers.
The centre will close from Monday (16 May) for approximately six weeks while the work is underway.
A Customer and Library Services Officer will be available at the Broadford Living and Learning Centre on weekdays from 9am to 5pm during the closure.

KILMORE STREETSCAPE
Works on Kilmore’s Sydney Street Rejuvenation Project are moving ahead on the west side of Sydney Street from the junction at Union Street to 85 Sydney Street.
A traffic management plan is in place to create a safe space while we demolish existing kerb, channel and bordering asphalt.
We've partnered with the Victorian Government for this $4.65 million project, which is set to transform the look of the street and celebrate its unique historic character.

ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND
The Community Bank® Adventure Playground at Wallan’s Hadfield Park has reopened today after repairs and maintenance to treat surface rust and flaking paint. The playground is now back open and ready for action.

QUARRY FORUM SENDS CLEAR MESSAGE

Strong show of support for quarry fight
The community has again sent a strong message that they do not want the proposed quarry in Beveridge/Wallan. More than 70 residents attended the NO QUARRY Community Forum last night to raise their concerns.

Parliament House of Victoria steps - 8 June
You can also join your friends and neighbours on the steps of Parliament House on Wednesday 8 June to make sure your voice is heard by those who will make the final decision on this quarry. We will run a free bus to Parliament House and back with pick-ups in Wallan and Beveridge.
This quarry isn't a done deal. so make your sure your voice is heard.

We've joined with thousands of organisations, schools and individuals across the country to celebrate this year’s International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
Every year we acknowledge this important day to support our LGBTIAQ+ friends, family and colleagues to raise awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination.
As part of the Join us this year for a Coffee with a Cop session at Broadford Living and Learning Centre.

Beveridge community day
Residents of Beveridge and surrounds are invited to enjoy a free coffee and morning tea and meet some of our local emergency services on Saturday 21 May.
The event will be held at Greater Beveridge Community Centre from 11am to 1pm and will include:

Children's car restraint inspections by Kidsafe Victoria (bookings essential)

Coffee with a Cop - ask questions, discuss what's happening in the area and get to know our local officers

SUPPORTING LOCAL VOLUNTEERS
Every week hundreds of generous volunteers give up their time to support Mitchell Shire’s community groups.
That’s why Mitchell Shire Council is celebrating National Volunteer Week 2022 by supporting local volunteers.
Community groups can apply for a grant of up to $500. Funds can support technology, training and development, equipment including personal protective equipment, subscriptions, transport or other applicable costs usually incurred by volunteers or the group.
