Case study - Pyelonephritis managed by Hospital in the Home Nina, 33 years, had two days left flank pain, fevers and dysuria. WCC 10.2, normal creatinine and urea, CT KUB showed nil stones, normal kidneys. A diagnosis of uncomplicated pyelonephritis was made, and Dr L commenced her empirically on trimethoprim while awaiting urine culture. No history of UTIs, stones or STIs. Click here to read more |

Ulipristal acetate: A new oral emergency contraception option
Ulipristal acetate is a selective progesterone receptor modulator. It works in a similar way to 1.5mg levonorgestrel by preventing or delaying ovulation until sperm are no longer viable in the female reproductive tract. Click here to read more
Clinical focus on young adults with type 2 diabetes
Until recently type 2 diabetes has been considered the milder type of diabetes however recent evidence, including research from our local area has highlighted the poor prognosis associated with young type 2 diabetes with outcomes much worse than for type 1 diabetes or diabetes of onset beyond middle age. Commissioning Psychological Support Services The Central and Eastern Sydney PHN Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS) program is transitioning to become Psychological Support Services (PSS) from 1 December 2016. PSS will deliver services to underserviced and/or hard to reach groups in our region. Our approach to commissioning these services has been shaped by our comprehensive needs assessment, a co-design process held in July and guidance from the Department of Health.
