A group of 6th Form pupils and teachers recently hopped on the school mini buses and travelled to Coláiste Uisce in Mayo to spend a weekend practising oral Irish.   We arrived on Friday evening and were split into 4 teams for the weekend.  Over the course of the weekend we took part in body boarding, pier jumping, raft building, bench ball, archery, climbing and more.  We even had a céilí on our last night!  Read more...

CSPE Guest Speaker

On Friday 6 November a speaker came into The High School to talk to CSPE pupils, and those going on the Habitat for Humanities trip, about his work for Concern. Stewart Gee, the speaker, no longer works for Concern but he talked to us about his adventures in different countries like Haiti, during the earthquake in 2010, Malawi, a region in Africa that is very underdeveloped, and Afghanistan.  It was very interesting and we learned a great deal.  Thanks to Ms Bennett for organising it.

Remembrance

The High School commemorated all those who died in conflict during the twentieth century in an Act of Remembrance on Tuesday and Wednesday last week during Assembly.  William Le Bas spoke movingly about his relatives who were High School past pupils, and who died in that war. The Principal represented The High School at the annual Act of Remembrance which was held in the presence of His Excellency the President of Ireland at St Patrick’ Cathedral on Remembrance Sunday.  Above is a photo of current High School pupils whose relatives are named on the High School War Memorial plaques.

Habitat Sleep Out

On the night of Saturday 7 November, following a successful street collection in Rathgar for Habitat for Humanity Ireland, 20 pupils of 4th and 5th Form met in Christ Church, Rathgar for the inaugural High School sponsored Sleep Out in the church grounds.  The pupils are travelling to Lesotho in 2016 with Habitat for Humanity.     Everyone had come prepared for a night in the open with pop up tents in reserve - just in case!   The weather was very kind to us and after food and hot chocolate everyone settled down for the night - on ground sheets , roll mats and warm sleeping bags.  This was a "first" for The High School and for all of us!      A night to remember.
