CSPE Guest Speaker

On Friday 6 November a speaker came into The High School to talk to CSPE pupils, and those going on the Habitat for Humanities trip, about his work for Concern. Stewart Gee, the speaker, no longer works for Concern but he talked to us about his adventures in different countries like Haiti, during the earthquake in 2010, Malawi, a region in Africa that is very underdeveloped, and Afghanistan.  It was very interesting and we learned a great deal.  Thanks to Ms Bennett for organising it.

The High School commemorated all those who died in conflict during the twentieth century in an Act of Remembrance on Tuesday and Wednesday last week during Assembly.  William Le Bas spoke movingly about his relatives who were High School past pupils, and who died in that war. The Principal represented The High School at the annual Act of Remembrance which was held in the presence of His Excellency the President of Ireland at St Patrick’ Cathedral on Remembrance Sunday.  Above is a photo of current High School pupils whose relatives are named on the High School War Memorial plaques.

Habitat Sleep Out

On the night of Saturday 7 November, following a successful street collection in Rathgar for Habitat for Humanity Ireland, 20 pupils of 4th and 5th Form met in Christ Church, Rathgar for the inaugural High School sponsored Sleep Out in the church grounds.  The pupils are travelling to Lesotho in 2016 with Habitat for Humanity.     Everyone had come prepared for a night in the open with pop up tents in reserve - just in case!   The weather was very kind to us and after food and hot chocolate everyone settled down for the night - on ground sheets , roll mats and warm sleeping bags.  This was a "first" for The High School and for all of us!      A night to remember.

Volunteers Needed

Meals on Wheels in the Rathgar area are currently looking for volunteer drivers and cooks. They operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from Christ Church in Rathgar.  If you are in a position to help out please contact Suzanne Ryan on 086 3611527 or send an email to  giving details of the day that suits you, whether you are interested in cooking or delivering.

Red Cross Money Raised

Well done to everyone who helped raise money for the Red Cross Migration Crisis Appeal during the recent non-uniform day.  Your donation of €1440 will make a huge difference to people escaping conflict or persecution.  Your kindness and humanity mean such a lot to people who have risked everything in search of a new life.
