Dear New Town Community Member,

The Council’s project team have developed draft concept designs for the New Town Retail Precinct streetscape upgrade.  The proposed improvements are based on the recommendations made by the community’s Project Action Team late last year.

We’re now excited to share the plans with the whole of New Town.

We are ‘setting up shop’ for a weekend and we warmly invite you to drop in, say hello, view the plans, attend a talk, bring the kids, ask questions and let us know what you think…. We’ll be in the vacant shop on the corner of New Town Road and Roope Street (next to the Cat Clinic).  Visit us at the following times:

4pm - 7pm, Thursday 15 March 2018

10am - 7pm, Friday 16 March 2018

 10am - 4pm, Saturday 17 March 2018 

In addition to the draft streetscape plans, concept plans for a public artwork will be exhibited (not the final artworks).  You can also view the background analysis work and information about the exciting community engagement process that informed the designs. 

There will be a series of presentations over the weekend, including an official launch, a discussion of local heritage, how to apply for a community grant, how to host a community event, a presentation by the winning public artist and a virtual tour with the design team who will present the proposed streetscape changes.  We’d love to see you at any time during our open hours, however we strongly encourage you to RSVP for these presentations.  

This is a child friendly affair with activities to keep kids entertained, leaving parents and grandparents to view the plans.

We’re encouraging the whole precinct community, including traders, residents, shoppers, schools and community organisations to get involved.  Would you like to run a sausage sizzle, bake sale or produce stall on the footpath near our shop, to raise money for your New Town school or community organisation?  How about offering a weekend special at your retail business?  We’re inviting local traders to pin up a flyer advertising a special deal, offer or happening that you might like to make during this exciting weekend.  (We’d really love nothing better than to encourage people to stay and shop in the precinct once they’ve viewed the plans).   If you see a way you or your organisation could get involved, or if you have any questions at all, please contact us.
