Hello there! Is it just me or pure coincidence that our events turn up around long weekends? Either way I hope you receive this invite in warm and well.

Been troubled for weeks, testing and experimenting what would be perfect for the ultimate winter fest. Imagine if the flavours of Indonesia came to you in a bowl? That's been my challenge! So without further ado...Here goes:

This Saturday 6 June Nusantara Indonesian Tea Cafe brings you our final tasting event in Ranui!

Event Details
What: Nusantara Indonesian Tea Cafe Monthly Tasting Series
Date: Saturday 6th June
Time: 1pm - 3pm
Venue: Ranui Community Centre (Tea Tree Cafe Kitchen)
Address: 474 Swanson Road, Ranui
Cost: Koha (eat-in) / $10 takeaways

WHAT'S ON THE MENU...

Soup Madura

An Indonesian equivalent to "chicken soup", this is a classic to start you off warm and hearty for anything that comes after. Lightly spiced with coriander, potato cubes and spring onions floating in your cup, you'd want more but don't! One is enough to whet your appetite smile emoticon

Mee Rebus
HA! Remember that Nusantara means the Malay archipelago and is politically a term uniting all the peoples beyond Indonesia? Well, this is my peace offering. My mother is known for making this. Literally translated to "Boiled Noodles", this is originally from Johore, Malay(sia), and it has traveled across bridges and waters to homes of many Indonesian families too. Yellow noodles in a rich gravy with chunky tofu, green chilli and beansprouts, I guess it's our very own spaghetti?!

Nasi Uduk
Well if you like "nasi lemak", a coconut rice based Malaysian dish, this is its cousin. The difference is Indonesians don't shy from putting Tempeh in everything! Coconut rice (the way my mum taught me) with a dollop serving of mild Sambal sauce and marinated fried tempeh crisps (instead of the fishy stuff). Oh and don't forget to bite in the cucumber slices- it's not garnish!

and of course what's the ceremonious tea this time: HOMEMADE LEMON TEA!

NEW! Takeaway Experiment

In an effort to continuously be environmentally conscious, we would like to encourage people to bring their own containers/ tupperware for takeaways. We will be still be sourcing eco-friendly packaging as well, however it will be cheaper for us if you brought your own since you probably have too many in the cupboards! The deal is:
Soup-in-a-cup $2 / free if you buy mee/nasi in your own container
Mee or Nasi $10 each / $8 each in your own container!

Email nusantaravegan@gmail.com to book takeaways. Please note to bring exact cash and we will only serve takeaways at the end of our event at 3pm.

and yes it is the last tasting event...
This would be the last tasting event in Ranui Community Centre as I will be taking stock of feedback and review the demand from the last 3 months of this campaign. When I started this, it was positively in the vein of connecting the community with the food of my people. And I have been blessed getting to know our fellow neighbours in Ranui as well as friends from different parts of Auckland. Unfortunately, I am doing this on my own and have no project partners or committed volunteers. This Saturday, I will speak further on my plans including potentially a crowdfunding campaign. I hope you will be there to hear about it
