LAKESIDE NEWS FROM THE SPIRES

A NOTE FROM OUR TEAM

Greetings from The Spires team!

My friend, Janet, emailed me an article entitled, “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?”  What an intriguing question.  The answer for most of us would be, “Well, that depends on the day!”

I like to think that age is not what defines us, but rather our perspective, life experiences, attitude and willingness to release fear and embrace what life brings our way - the good, the bad and the ugly.

Many of you have done some amazing things in your lives, beyond careers.  Did you know that John and Susan Fisher sailed around the equator for five years?  How bold is that?  Marion Dobbs is still traveling the world, conducting field research and attending conferences.  What passion!  Sam and Nancy Ratcliff just got back from Africa.  How adventurous!  We could go on and on, but my point is, as my good friend Mark Twain used to say, “Age is an issue of mind over matter.  If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”  The older I get, the more I embrace this sentiment. What about you?
With that in mind, please check out our upcoming Spires events and mark your calendars.  If you haven’t joined us lately, you are missing out on some great fun, food and fellowship.

Cheers!

Sam & Nancy Ratcliffe Return from Uganda Mission Trip

Sam and Nancy Ratcliffe combined an opportunity for mission work with a safari. They traveled to Kampala, Uganda, to serve at the Center of Refuge and Hope, an urban facility where refugees from neighboring countries who have fled political conflict are taught the English language and job skills to help them begin new lives. Some of the students have little or no formal education while others find themselves needing to learn English to practice their professions or attend universities.
