As UK Foreign and Defence Secretaries Johnson and Fallon attend the annual AUKMIN talks currently taking place in Sydney, ADM Deputy-Editor-at-Large Nigel Pittway reports on the cutting of first steel for the RN's Type 26, the design of which is a contender for Australia's Sea 5000 Future Frigate project.

The new Force Design Division will conduct an inaugural conference in October to outline the way Defence conducts Force Design as part of the new Capability Life Cycle – it will also provide updates on innovation priorities and the development of the Sovereign Industry Capability framework.

In other news DST Group considers an opportunity to test equipment in space, F-35s surpass 100K hours and L3 Micreo opens a new Brisbane facility.

Finally, this week I've been checking out ‘WiFi in the sky’ and the obvious applications in the defence context thanks to a trip on Honeywell Aerospace's B757 test aircraft,
