MESSAGES
A MESSAGE FROM DAMIEN LAFOREST Hello again! So much has occurred over the last three months. Plenty more rigging works as listed later, another training day, Reds Global Christmas party and sadly, reports of more tower crane related incidents in the industry. We have all heard about the recent incidents in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. These have prompted SafeWork NSW to undertake a 6-month blitz because the perception is crane related incidents are becoming "common". It is vital that we continue to hold our high safety standards and strive to raise the bar again. This is achieved by continued training, investment in new equipment and safety technologies. Thanks to all who attended the recent training day. We were hampered by weather and had to change out pre-cast for asbestos at the last minute. We will aim to have this as part of the next instalment because it is such a high risk work activity. Training days are scoped out in collaboration with the company consultative committee so please provide feedback on any topic you would like covered in future. I understand there is a repeated request to avoid Sunday's so we are looking at ways to limit the Sunday training to once per year. We have fielded a number of calls from the ATO enquiring into our employees work related expenses. Please make sure that your returns are accurate because Reds Global is unable to substantiate any personal expenses. On the topic of money, I urge everyone to take caution when considering taking on any large financial commitments. Although Reds Global has grown year on year we are at the mercy of market conditions which have been expected to decline for a while now. Add this to the risks of competition from non-EBA labour like that going on in Queensland, could create a dangerous mix. It was great catching up with people at the Christmas Party, beautiful day in a wonderful location. Thank you so much to Kylie for organising the day, amazing job. I would love to hear some alternative ideas to capture more site staff at next years event. The day is for all employees to get together and recognise the hard work from all so it would be fantastic to get more involvement in 2019. Don't forget to post some photos on Facebook, Lachy is on a big winning streak and needs some competition. Cheers All.
