Note from the RE

Another quick note from me this month.  As I'm sure I've told you plenty of times that I work for a payroll company, and for all of you waiting anxiously at your mailboxes for your W2s or 1099s...I'm the poor human behind processing well over 30,000 of them for all of the companies I do payroll for.  Needless to say, January is crazy for me.

Just know that I'm here, with my head spinning and wheels turning, getting ready to make this year a good one for us!  We'll be having our planning meetings and banquet meetings in the upcoming weeks, so stay tuned for good things coming your way.

If you happen to see me somewhere, buried under a pile of paper, just let me be, I'm probably napping!

Keep it Classy Susquehanna
Melissa Mauro

From The Editor's Desk

Normally I prefer to work behind the scenes, but as I was poring through old photos from 2020, I found one that stood out to me, that I feel is an appropriate banner. Yes I was drinking when I saw the photo. No I don't mind waxing philosophical.
Some of you may remember this day rather well -- it was a cold day, fraught with intermittent rain creating challenging situations for all participating. However, I love what this photo represents. The waning sun shedding the last of its light as we brought another fantastic Match Tour to a close, seeing top drivers battle it out for supremacy on a fun and technical course.

Despite the clouds and the rain, we had a massive turnout of both fresh faces and old friends, and projected a shining light of the camaraderie the SCCA stands for. I cannot wait for our 2021 season.

One Of Our Own - Making Moves with SCCA National

As many of you (may or may not) know, our former RE, Kristen Poole accepted a position with SCCA National in 2020.  She's already kicking ass and taking names (like we knew she would) and she's been promoted to Director of Marketing and Communications with the National staff.  If you happen to see her - make sure to give her a BIG (socially distanced) congratulations!  We're happy to see our local region representing the National SCCA...in a big way!  Congratulations Kristen!

Banquet Moved to March

In light of the limitations for indoor events, we've moved the date of the banquet to March 20, 2021, instead of its regularly scheduled January weekend.  It isn't fair, or much of a celebration, if we all can't be together, so that's why we've made the adjustment.

Keep your eyes out for emails and information from us in January and February regarding awards and registration!  We'll keep you posted as things progress.

Central PA Food Bank RallyCross

By Alan Lesher

I received a thank you note from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank expressing thanks for the gift our region gave them in 2020.  For those members how do not follow our rally cross program, the rally cross team put together a charity rallycross to benefit the food bank.  The day raised a nice sum of $1,818. which went directly to them.  The SCCA national office offers a big discount for the sanction fee and insurance to a region that holds a charity event, one per year per program.  This is a great benefit and something we could and should consider in 2021.

January Regional Meeting

January 28, 2021 - at 7:00pm - NEW TIME!

WE’RE BACK AT APPALACHIAN BREWING COMPANY! ...COVID STYLE

Our next meeting will be held on the second floor at Appalachian Brewing Company, 50 N. Cameron Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. All members are encouraged to attend. Come an hour early for dinner (and a drink) with other members.

Meeting changes due to COVID:

  •  The upstairs bar area is not currently open to the public, but they are allowing us to use the upstairs for the meeting.  If you’re planning to eat, you’ll need to let the host know that you’re with the SCCA group, and they will seat you in the area they have reserved for us in the downstairs dining room.

  • If you plan on drinking anything with alcohol, you must have a food item on your bill.  (There only needs to be 1 food item per bill that has alcohol on it, and can be an appetizer)

  • The meeting will begin at 7:00pm (as ABC closes at 8:00pm) but will stay open until we’re finished.

  • You can get food and drinks once the meeting has begun, you’ll just need to go downstairs to order everything.
