Trade Update - November 2023

Kia Ora, and Hello!

Things are shaping for a great holiday season and our businesses are enjoying welcoming returning guests after the tranquility of the cooler months.

The Pacific Coast Highway around the peninsula remains the recommended scenic touring route but SH25a adds a more direct route to eastern towns if time is short. The east-west route across the peninsula, SH25a will reopen before Christmas having been closed for some months for repairs.

The walking tracks to Cathedral Cove will remain closed this summer, but with a good number of trade-ready operators offering tours across the marine reserve to see this iconic place, you can be assured that your guests will not be disappointed.  There is so much more to experience along this labyrinthine coastline in addition to the famous bay!

Coromandel Coastal Walkway

New from Hike & Bike Coromandel

Guests can now choose the length of their hike and add in a return e-bike option down the coastal road, which is proving very popular. The Coastal Walkway is one of our iconic walks, but you should book a guide as the trip up there will be much more enjoyable, and the road is not suitable for rental cars.

Awildian Gin

Giving Back

For a local momento, this truly unique Coromandel Manuka Gin brings together the science and art of distilling with the wildness of our land and sea. Meticulously crafted in a gleaming copper still in the Thames micro-distillery, this gin won World's Best in 2022. Guests can taste the spirit by visiting the cellar door in The Depot, Thames.

Travel Tips

One of Aotearoa New Zealand's most popular day walks is The Pinnacles. Set in the Kauaeranga Valley, close to Thames, which is a good base for your clients. This is a really accessible 8-hour intermediate route for reasonably fit hikers.  Interesting cultural backstories and magnificent views all the way to the glittering eastern coast from the summit, the highest point around.
