The library received a $10,000 donation from The Friends of the Guelph Public Library, who generously provided the furnishing and shelving for the Bookmobile. This initiative was also funded in part by a $9,320 Community Foundation Fund for Canada's 150th grant - a collaboration between the Guelph Community Foundation, the Government of Canada and extraordinary leaders from coast to coast to coast. The Guelph Community Foundation helped to equip the vehicle with new technologies allowing the library to provide tech-based programming out in the community - especially as we celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. We look forward to growing this vital community service and hope you can join us for the official ribbon cutting service on Friday, April 28th at 12:30 pm at our East Side branch (1 Starwood Drive). April Showers Bring May Flowers: Gardening Time Join us on Wednesday, April 5 for a hands-on workshop to plan your Canada 150th Red and White Garden. The Master Gardeners will help you showcase your Canadian spirit by incorporating flower options for sun and shade in dazzling red and white colours. On Thursday, April 6, come Catch the Buzz! Canada has over 800 species of bees and this informative presentation will discuss pollinator diversity, threats and how you can make a difference. Bees are our most important type of pollinator and we are reliant on them for over 80% of the reproduction of flowering plants. Let’s all make a difference! Follow up with Planting for Pollinators on Thursday April 27, another hands-on program by the Master Gardeners that shows you how to plan, plant and maintain your garden to attract and support our necessary pollinators – and not just bees! All programs take place at 7pm at the main library. Please register for your program or ask at any library location. In honour of the 20th anniversary of Symposium Café, the Guelph Restaurant generously donated $250 to the Guelph Public Library to help celebrate Canada’s upcoming 150th anniversary of Confederation. “We are a proudly Canadian company, and with both anniversaries approaching, we wanted to give back to the community. We thought what better way than to partner with the library and provide further opportunities for our community to celebrate this milestone with the addition of new Canadian junior books for the library’s collection.” Thank you Symposium Restaurant and Café for helping to promote literacy and encouraging our community to celebrate Canada’s 150th!
