A MESSAGE FROM SCOTT HARDY

Good morning everyone, and happy March! Today, I wanted to give you a sneak peek into the timeline of a class action settlement. Usually when a settlement administrator reaches out to us to post a settlement in our Open Settlement section, it pops up there within a month. We receive the request, get the info, prepare a mock-up, send it to the settlement administrator for approval, they run it by the plaintiff and defense lawyers who edit it, we then make their updates and submit for final approval, and within a week or so, BOOM we are ready to roll as soon as the claim period opens up.

It doesn’t ALWAYS work out that way, though. Just like how final approval for payments can get delayed, sometimes the posting of the settlement itself can be delayed. We had one settlement we thought would go live in September but just received final approval on Monday. Yep, six months. Sometimes that happens in our world. Plaintiffs or defendants need some extra time to iron out a detail or two with the judge approving the initial settlement agreement, or maybe just the courts are clogged and the settlement agreement takes extra long to get rolling. Either way, we work hard with the settlement administrator to keep things rolling. They push hard because they want to get it moving and get paid. We are all working toward the same goal—getting it to YOU so can get your claim submitted (if you qualify), and the defendant can get the issue closed out and behind them.

As in all things class action, sometimes it just takes patience. The wheels of justice move slowly but they do move, so keep checking to see what you can claim and be patient. You’ll get your check eventually in most cases!

Ok, on to more lawsuit and settlement updates!
