Protecting Our Babies Against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

A Message from Dr. Shannon McDonald, FNHA Deputy Chief Medical Officer

October is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month. I would first like to express my deepest condolences to anyone who has lost their precious baby. I know the unspeakable and life-changing pain of losing a child. There are simply no words.

In this message, I want to share information about what we can do to protect babies in our communities from SIDS. The old saying that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is true, and I know we all want to do what we can to lessen risks.

Please check out our Facebook page, as all through October, we will be sharing prevention tips to keep our babies as safe and healthy as possible – the main one being that babies should be placed on their backs only for sleeping.

2017 FNHA Nursing Education Forum

The FNHA is proud to host the 2017 Nursing Education Forum. FNHA Nursing Services welcomes all community nurses throughout BC to join us in learning, networking, sharing and recharging. This year promises to be a memorable and rejuvenating three-day experience.

Our theme this year: Culture, Collaboration, and Curiosity.

With every NEF experience we try to transform the way we develop and deliver the latest insights, ideas, knowledge and skills to the 200 community nurses that attend NEF every year. This year we welcome you to an environment where we can collaborate, honour, highlight and also discuss, listen and support your needs.

Similar to past years, the Forum will be offered twice over the course of two weeks:

Week 1: November 21 – 23, 2017
Week 2: November 28 – 30, 2017
