Dear Industry Partner, This year, TIANS embraced technology and the ability to meet with our Membership electronically. We thank everyone who took part in our 2021 Virtual AGM on October 6th. Premier Houston joined us online, providing Opening Remarks in advance of the business meeting. TIANS 2021/2022 Board of
Directors was presented for acceptance at the AGM. We are pleased to welcome Wes Surrett, General Manager, Pictou Lodge Beach Resort, as the new TIANS Chair, and we thank outgoing Chair, Judy Saunders, for her great leadership over the past four years. Staying in the virtual realm, we have just confirmed the date for a Keynote Address by General (Ret'd) Rick Hillier, Former Chief of the Defense Staff of the Canadian Forces. On Tuesday, November 16 at 1PM General Hillier will present on Leadership in a Post-COVID Era. Additional details and registration link coming soon. With the recent shift into Phase 5 of the provincial re-opening and the new requirement for Proof of Vaccine, TIANS continues to respond to Industry needs. TOMORROW, October 15th, we will be hosting a second Webinar with Ron Pizzo from Law Firm Pink Larkin. Join us, as Ron will provide information and answer questions around the POV and developing your own policies. Staffing shortages continue to challenge tourism employers and we all need to do things differently. On October 19th we are hosting an informational webinar with Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia - "Attracting and Recruiting Newcomer Talent." Also on the labour front, Tourism HR Canada is hosting a webinar on November 4, outlining the ins and outs of the new Propel, Work Placement Program, with Wage Subsidy for Employers. As we continue to rebuild and reshape the Tourism Sector in Nova Scotia, TIANS is here for you. Propel Student Work Placement Program Information WebinarPropel offers tourism and hospitality employers access to up to $7,500 in wage subsidies when they hire a post-secondary student for work-integrated learning: an internship, a co-op placement, a work experience placement, and more. Students gain paid hands-on learning and mentoring in their field of study. Employers acquire much-needed early talent to help with the recovery of the industry, as well as assistance with wages
after an 18-month stretch of little or no income. Post-secondary institutions complement their programming by connecting students and the workplace.
