Hopefully, next year, my sleepiness won't be in vane and I'll put my big girl pants on and actually participate in the event! It was a great time, and we had more Susquehanna Region members there than we usually do - which made my time there even more fun! I'd like to recognize the brave region members who participated in some of the craziest weather conditions I've ever seen: Eric Peachey, Geoffrey Wolpert, Kristen Poole, and Rob Springer. I'd also like to recognize the region members with impressive looking-ahead skills who took CP cars around the track in the dark: Dennis & Derek Latshaw. And I'd especially like to recognize Justin Peachey, who came out to his first year at Nationals, in a car he's ever driven before, and received a trophy! Congratulations to all of our members who participated, and especially Justin who earned some "wood" for the region! I think maybe I need to ask Justin to mentor me so I can be as fearless as he is! Although summer is officially coming to a close (per the calendar), our racing season isn't! We have one more event at the York Expo Center - for a day filled with fun runs and enjoying a new venue. I hope to see everyone there! One selfish plug - is please read my article below regarding the Tire Rack Street Survival event coming up in November. Keep it Classy Susquehanna - Melissa Mauro Photo Credit: Tom Hamm Photography Our Season Isn't Over Just Yet... Once again it’s that time of year where we start winding down the season. Our Triton Automotive Autocross Points Event Series is all wrapped up after a rain-laden—albeit incredibly fun—final double header at Farm Show on September 9th. But, for those of you who aren’t *quite* done for the year, we do have a BONUS event scheduled at the York Expo Center on October 27th. Registration is now open (button below). We’ll be capping the event at 80 drivers, and each will get 8 runs… all for $80. If you want in, don’t wait to register! Photo Credit: Tom Hamm Photography Attention Rallycrossers! by John Roscinski Whoever gave John a megaphone is probably regretting their decision by now... Fortunately it will be a few months before you have to hear that again since the extendedseason just came to a close. However we aren't calling it quits just yet! There's still work to be done with improving the timing system and hunting down additional venues before we start back up for next year's season! If you have a lead on a venue or would like to pitch in, drop us a line: rallycross@scca-susq.com Street Survival Coming Soon - November 3rd by Melissa Mauro I NEED YOUR HELP! Susquehanna's first-ever Tire Rack Street Survival is quickly approaching, and I'm putting a call out for help. This event requires a lot of coordination, so if any of you have help with any of these items below, I'd appreciate the help. These are just a few small details of an event that has a lot of moving parts!
This is going to be a great way to give back to the community, and help make some teens safer out on the road. If you're interesting in coaching, and you haven't gotten your certification yet, you can go here and take the course. It takes about 45 minutes, and you'll get a certificate when you're finished. The certificates are emailed to Tim Beechuk, but if you can email me at streetsurvival@scca-susq.com, so I know you're certified, that would be great. I also have the Coach/Event Help sign up page open on MSR, so if you're able to make the event, please sign up below! If you're interested in helping with the event in any way, I'd love to hear from you as well. Feel free to email me or reach out via Facebook. Barn Quilt RoadRally! Note: We will be looking for a few volunteers to help with the check point stations and final scoring. Volunteers are also able to take part in the Road Rally! If you're available to help out, please contact Lisa Leathery. September Regional MeetingThursday, September 27th • 7:00 p.m. Our next meeting will be held in the private meeting room at Dodge City Steakhouse, 1037 Paxton Street in Harrisburg. All members are encouraged to attend. Join us at 6:00pm for dinner (and a drink) with other members. Meeting will start promptly at 7:00pm. Dodge City closes at 9:00pm. PHA Time Trial at Summit Point by Alan Lesher For details on times and results, visit the PHA site at phahillclimb.org. In addition, Susquehanna region member Don McLaughlin used his camera to capture the event and his remarkable work can be seen here. Two more items of interest. The top speeds were measured 2 places over the weekend. First at the top of Pistol Grip straight and at the end of the back straight. The top speed recorded was 131 mph in a street mod-extreme Rx-7. Second, a show of hands on Sunday morning revealed that the drivers preferred the Shenandoah track over the Jefferson track and PHA will probably move to Shenandoah for both the Spring and Fall events. Anniversaries! Let's all congratulate the following region members who are celebrating big anniversaries with SCCA this month:
Region Merchandise Available!Have you been looking for region specific apparel and gear? SCCA Gear added a new section for region merchandise and we've made sure that the Susquehanna region is a part of it. News from SCCA 1375: One Number to Know from Solo Nationals SEP 12, 2018 — Each year, drivers come from far and wide to compete at Solo Nationals. And each year Solo’s “official-unofficial” historian, Rocky Entriken tracks the results of each in his Solo Stats book. The book began as personal notes used by Entriken in writing the official SportsCar coverage of the event, something he has done every year since 1973. Get to Know KONI Shocks SEP 11, 2018 — KONI Shock Absorbers and the SCCA have a very strong history from the 1950s all the way up to the present day. KONI views the SCCA as a strategic partnership in the history and future of the company and of motorsports. KONI adjustable shocks and struts have for decades been a cornerstone and often starting point for performance suspension refinement and tuning. Special Awards Recap for 2018 Solo Nationals SEP 10, 2018 — The 2018 Tire Rack SCCA® Solo® Nationals concluded festivities last Friday with the traditional end-of-week banquet. The ceremony heralded a second set of Solo champions, with the first set being lauded earlier in the week on Wednesday. Beyond recognizing this year’s champions, some additional honors were handed out during the closing ceremony. Solo Nationals Resets Record SEP 12, 2017 — This year’s 46th running of the Solo Nationals has indeed reset the event record for number of participants to cross the start line on one of two courses constructed Sept. 4-7 in Lincoln Nebraska. The SCCA record book will show that 1,375 drivers participated in the 2018 Solo Nationals, beating the previous record set in 2017 by 58 competitors. And of those 1,375 drivers, nearly 240 were first-timers. ——— Sponsors ———2018 Event Schedule 10/6/18: Barn Quilt Road Rally, Fulton Co.
