Air conditioner and building chillers consultationEECA is going back to industry with a revised proposal for air conditioners and chillers. This responds to stakeholder feedback from a previous consultation carried out by EECA and its partner in the E3 programme - the Australian Department of the Environment and Energy. The consultation paper also include proposed new options for building chillers. An industry meeting is scheduled for 9 December - for more information Lisa.Sinclair@eeca.govt.nz Swimming Pool pumps Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement (Australia-only)An Australian-only proposal to regulate swimming pool pumps has been released. EECA considered regulating this product in New Zealand but doesn’t think a regulatory intervention is justified. EECA and programme partners in Australia are keen to hear if you have any concerns about how this proposal may affect trade between New Zealand and Australia. For more information Laura.Christen@eeca.govt.nz E3: Minor amendment to Motors RegulationsE3 is proposing to align the Regulations for three phase motors with international standards, replacing the current test standard AS/NZS 1359.5:2004 (allowing method A and B) with the international test method IEC 600034-2-1 Ed 2.0 (only allowing method A). This will remove ‘method B’ as a test method option, from a date yet to be determined. The MEPS levels (Minimum Energy Performance Standards) will not change. The Australian Industries Group (Ai Group) will run a video conference meeting on 2 December - New Zealanders can join in from the EECA Wellington or Auckland offices. Please contact Lisa Sinclair for details. EECA and the Australian MEPS regulators will run other consultation events. Please also contact Lisa Sinclair if you want to be on a potential technical working group to go through the IEC Standard in detail and decide how to adopt it for both our countries. E3: Lighting consultationEECA will be seeking feedback on a proposal to introduce minimum energy performance standards for LED lamps and commercial luminaires. This proposal has been developed under the trans-Tasman Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) programme and is informed by consultation that occurred on three lighting product profiles in 2015/16. To be notified about the proposal contact Carolyn.Shivanandan@eeca.govt.nz ComplianceEECA is meeting an Australian GEMS compliance team in late November to discuss closer working relationships between New Zealand and Australian compliance teams. There are companies trading in both countries so regulatory consistency is important. The meeting will look at legal and technical compliance issues and there will also be meetings with industry. For more information mike.small@eeca.govt.nz Lighting regulationDuring an investigation into fluorescent Ballast registrations (MEPS requirements) to ensure alignment between NZ regulations and the registration process, EECA identified that the present registration process has been accepting B2 efficiency in error when it should have B1 efficiency (higher spec). EECA has worked with industry and the New Zealand Lighting Council and is allowing existing B2 efficiency stock to be sold out. All new stock must be B1 efficiency.
