Haematology referrals to the Sydney Local Health District made easy

CESPHN general practices using Best Practice, Medical Director and Genie can take advantage of the electronic referrals to the Haematology Clinics in Concord and RPA Hospitals. Healthlink Smartform for Haematology Referrals to the SLHD - Concord Hospital and the RPAH - are easily generated from the patient file, auto-populating most of the referrals and upon completion the referral is sent electronically and securely to the relevant Heamatology Clinic.

Event: Pharmacotherapy for Alcohol Detoxification

This session covers the medications use to manage alcohol detoxication and relapse prevention for alcohol dependent patients. This session is for GPs working in primary care and will assist them to understand the principles of detoxification, relapse prevention and aftercare for patient with alcohol dependence and will help equip them with the skills to identify, treat and or refer for detoxification and manage relapse prevention and aftercare with their patients in the course of usual consultations.

80 general practices take advantage of POLAR

80 general practices in the CESPHN region have now implemented the POLAR tool which analyses practice data and can improve clinical and business outcomes. POLAR also assists practices to become eligible for QI PIP coming early in 2019. CESPHN still has FREE POLAR licences available and to take advantage of this offer contact the digital health team. Shane Lowe of Outcome Health will be running a POLAR webinar to assist existing users and showcase POLAR to the new users on 14 November 2018, 1.00 pm -2.00 pm.

Can you help test a new inhaler device and receive inhaler education?

The Woolcock Institute is looking to visit 200 GPs at their practice for the testing of a new placebo inhaler device. Participation takes 5 minutes on two occasions. Individual GPs are welcome to participate. Where multiple GPs from a practice would like to be involved, The Woolcock can deliver a lunchtime educational session on respiratory devices at their convenience.

Expansion of the community pharmacist vaccination program

Clause 48A of the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Regulation 2008 will be amended to commence on 1 January 2019 to authorise appropriately trained pharmacists in NSW to administer privately funded diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (dTpa) and measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine (in addition to influenza vaccine). The age that pharmacists can administer these vaccines will be lowered to include people 16 years of age and over.

Community Consultations: Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan

The Central and Eastern Sydney Regional Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan (the Regional Plan) will be an agreement about what is needed, by when, how and who will be responsible for making the change happen. The Regional Plan will have a three year focus (2019-2021) and will help to ensure that resources are targeted to best respond to local mental health and suicide prevention issues.
