Research support request - Chronic breathlessness
Chronic breathlessness accounts for major limitations in our society, such that 15% of > 55 year olds experience breathlessness, preventing the ability to conduct normal activities for daily living. It impacts work performance and may even be a major barrier for people staying in the workforce as they age. Much of this can be addressed if the cause of dyspnea is determined and appropriate treatment commenced. Our interest is to look at ways of addressing this in primary care in order to develop a time-efficient, evidence-based diagnostic and management tool for dyspnea. To achieve this, we wish to conduct 2-3 focus groups with interested primary care physicians on wide ranging issues around dyspnea in your daily
practice and the solutions that you may consider appropriate, as well as possible barriers. You will be reimbursed for your time. Please contact Allison Humphries if you are interested in participating.
Does the NDIS support young children?
Yes. For children aged 0-6 years with developmental delay or disability there is a separate pathway to access support under the NDIS. Across NSW, experienced early childhood intervention providers are contracted to deliver the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach. Early Childhood Transition Providers are teams of early childhood professionals and paediatric allied health staff who will work with children to determine appropriate supports for their development. Early Childhood Transition Providers may refer families to
appropriate supports in the mainstream or community, provide some short term early childhood intervention or assist the family to complete an Access Request Form if this is required. Click here for more information.

Submissions requested on potential health impacts of PFAS contamination
The Department of Health has established an Expert Health Panel for PFAS to advise the Australian Government on the potential health impacts associated with Per- and Poly-fluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) exposure and to identify priority areas for further research. To achieve its objective, the Expert Health Panel will take into account the evidence available from both Australian and international scientific research into the potential human health effects of PFAS exposure, and consider the views of the public and other stakeholders through an invitation for public written submissions.
The Expert Health Panel is now inviting submissions to better understand the range of public views on the potential health impacts of PFAS contamination and what the focus of future research should be. Allen + Clarke, an independent firm, has been engaged by the Department of Health to conduct the public consultation and report the findings back to the Expert Health Panel.
For more information on the work of the Panel including its Terms of Reference and how to contribute to the public consultation process please visit health.gov.au/pfas.
