Hello ACORNS subscriber,
The Federation warmly welcomes two new members from the Americas this month. From the north, we welcome as an Affiliate Member the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada). Based in the unique environment of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the Banff Centre exists to inspire artists and leaders to make their unique contribution to society, and aspires to be a global leader in arts, culture, and creativity. From the south, we welcome the Ministry of Culture, Argentina as a National Member. Reflecting on the significance of joining the Federation, Dr Iván Petrella, Secretary for Federal Integration and International Cooperation at the Ministry, commented: “Argentine cultural policy faces a
number of challenges, the promotion of Argentine culture in the world and the generation of intercultural dialogue are among them. We believe that our membership in IFACCA is a step forward on this path. Argentina has internationally renowned personalities in the world of culture (Borges, Piazzolla, Argerich) but we have much more to offer. Likewise, we have the potential to benefit greatly from the exchange with other cultures. We believe IFACCA is the ideal platform to bridge the necessary cooperation networks needed for mutual benefit."
There has been much interesting news from the region recently, some of which you will find below, more of which you can find on our web site. Of course, there is only so much you can learn from the headlines. Luckily, you have the chance to hear firsthand from a number of cultural leaders from the Americas during the World Summit! The newly announced
programme includes sessions with Jane Chu (USA) and Carlos Javier Villaseñor Anaya (Mexico/Panama)
on pressing issues that impact on the sector; Octavio Kulesz (Argentina) on new approaches and directions; Barbara Negron (Chile) on innovative ways to build capacity; and Ángel Moreno Marin (Colombia)
and Garry Neil (Canada) on multilateral trade negotiations and their impact on cultural policies. With less than six weeks to go, we highly recommend that you check out the programme and plot your schedule. It's worth a read even if you have not yet registered, partly because even if you cannot make it you will be able to access content remotely, and partly because there is still time to book your place if you feel inspired...
As always, if you have news that you would like us to share, please contact us at news@ifacca.org.
