Click here Vol 22 No 28 4 May 2017 Habitat for Humanity - Indian SpringOn Friday 7 April, a group of five teachers and twenty pupils from Forms 4 and 5 left for Chennai Airport in India to begin a project building with Habitat for Humanity. After 13 hours of travel we arrived in the sweltering heat. Soon after we were greeted by welcoming locals at Kapiyampuliyur village, west of Pondicherry. There we worked for five days mixing and laying cement, while also working in the local primary school. The work was very difficult in the heat and humidity, but it was made easier by the friendly welcome from the children each day. It was hard saying goodbye after the closing ceremony on the final day, but we all left with the feeling of knowing we had done something to help those who needed it. We arrived back in Dublin on Tuesday 18 April, exhausted,
but having had a once in a lifetime experience. Green Schools SuccessThe High School has been awarded our third Green Flag for Water (following Litter/Waste and Energy). The flag ceremony will take place before the end of term. Congratulations to our Green-Schools committee who worked tirelessly to make this happen. Biking CompetitionCongratulations to Robert Beardsley who raced at the 2017 Gravity Enduro Series in County Wicklow recently. In this competition biking competitors battle it out over five events held around the country, with the winner crowned as the best all-round rider in Ireland. Riders tackle all terrain in all weather, using the same bike for all special stages. We wish Robert every success in the next stage of the race in Dublin on 17 June. HSD PA Summer SizzlerThe Parents' Association Summer Sizzler event on Friday 19 May is getting closer, so we’d really appreciate your support in helping us determine final numbers for food by getting your tickets ASAP!
Happy Birthday Mr ShakespeareLast Wednesday pupils celebrated Shakespeare's birthday in the Library with a special literary party. There were numerous quizzes and games to play, along with poetry recitals and even a Shakespearean rap performance! Pupils supplied sweets and treats while some very talented bakers from Form 1 made a selection of delicious, Elizabethan-themed cakes, much to the joy of their fellow pupils, teachers, and the school librarian.
