Psychiatry support line for GPs is now open!

If you are a GP practising in an eligible Primary Health Network (see below), you now have access to a psychiatrist who can support you in managing the care of mental health consumers. The service is free, and available Monday to Friday, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm. GPs can register for the service by visiting gpsupport.org.au or call 1800 16 17 18.

Common liver diseases and World Hepatitis Day 2018

World Hepatitis Day is observed on 28 July each year. It aims to raise global awareness of hepatitis and encourage prevention, diagnosis and treatment. To learn about local options for Hepatitis C prescribing support in the GP setting, including access to fibroscan, come along to the CPD event "Common Liver Diseases in Australia: Diagnosis, Assessment and Management" at 6.30 pm 26 July, Ashfield.

Breast Density - implications of breast density on cancer screening

Increased breast density, along with other factors like age and family history, is associated with increased risk of developing breast cancer. Increased breast density also reduces the ability of cancer to be detected by mammography. However, having two-yearly screening mammograms is currently the most effective way to detect breast cancer early in asymptomatic women above 50 years of age, regardless of their breast density.

The SLHD RACF Outreach Model of Care launch will be held on Wednesday 25 July 2018 at 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm. It will be held at The Marion, 237 Marion St, Leichhardt. Recommended attendees include RACF staff as well as aged care GPs and practice nurses.

Sydney District Nursing extended hours

Sydney District Nursing have extended the Croydon Community Centre clinic hours until 9.00 pm each weekday until 30 September 2018. This is to assist with the waiting list for Sydney District Nursing and provide a way for patients that are ambulant a booked clinic appointment time. This may be helpful for your patients who work full-time and find accessing nursing services difficult in the evening. Please note, these services are for patients residing within the Sydney Local Health District boundaries. To refer a patient, please follow the standard process as outlined in HealthPathways Sydney (username: connected, password: healthcare).

Pharmacies called to participate in Pharmacy Trial Program Opportunity

UNSW and Latrobe University researchers are seeking volunteer community pharmacies to participate in a community pharmacy routine opioid outcome monitoring pilot program. The ‘Routine Opioid Outcome Monitoring’ program is designed to test how effective embedding a screening tool into routine pharmacy practice is across a variety of factors.

Chinese Smoking Cessation Campaign – Quit & Win

The Quit & Win competition is jointly organised by the Chinese Australian Services Society (CASS) and NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS). The aim of this project is to reduce the smoking rate of the Chinese community in NSW.

Although the CESPHN offices will be relocating to Mascot in August this year, the CESPHN CPD program will continue to operate uninterrupted across the region. We will be using a number of venues around the St George and Inner West areas in place of the current Ashfield and Kogarah office locations. CPD venues we will be using include:
