Writing for Life Prize Winners Congratulations to Ivanna Sintes-Klein, Bobin Shim
& our Honorable MentionsGirls Write Now proudly joined forces with Chasing Spirits to present the inaugural "Writing for Life" Prize. This award honors the free, rebellious spirit of fourteen-year-old Maya Logan Eileraas, who used the pandemic to write their novel and fought for writing as a lifeline while in foster care and mental healthcare facilities. The winners and honorable mentions presented here tell their personal journeys with mental health through garden metaphors, childhood stories, basketball court first crushes, the beautiful intersection of Blackness and queerness, a new definition of home and family, and a letter to a
younger self.

READ WITH USWhat We're Reading: Accidents Happen & Other StoriesBy F.H. Batacan, Girls Write Now Salon Artist In
this extraordinary and far-ranging story collection, Girls Write Now Salon Artist F.H. Batacan explores the darkest corners of human experience, depicting with pitch-black humor the systems of class and politics that her characters are trapped in and the moments of violence—accidental or otherwise—that can shatter their lives. In particular, Batacan shines an unsparing light on the epidemic of violence against women in the Philippines. Write with her at our
Friday Night Salon on October 24th.
WRITE WITH USPrompt of the WeekAn ornate mirror recently showed up in the thrift store that has become your boring and poor paying summer job. This mirror would be an unnoticeable addition to the over crowded store, except for the fact that every time you pass the
mirror your reflection seems to be growing older, much older. Write the rest of the story.
Thank you to Wordly Words on Pinterest for this prompt! Find more writing inspiration on the Girls Write Now Pinterest boards.
