Taking action on sustainability

Last year Destination Coromandel and 6 local businesses completed a Sustainability Pilot Programme.  The Participants were:

Accommodation - Hot Water Beach Top 10 Holiday Park
Hospitality – Falls Retreat & Two Tides Bakery
Retail – Goldfields Shopping Mall
Activity – Hahei Explorer
Transport – Go Kiwi

We are now ready to roll the programme out to industry to make good on our region's reputation.

This is designed to be simple, progressive and ambitious.

The more people that support these steps the greater the impact will be. As Vivianne from Hot Water Beach Top 10 Holiday Park said, “It was great to learn about the small changes we can each make to achieve a great result together and cut costs!”

Focussing on Carbon Free, Waste Free and Predator Free, Step 1 is about small tangible wins.

Step 2 is optional, but truly – you’d be crazy not to! We’ve dedicated enough MBIE funds to support 200 businesses to receive 1-on-1 coaching with a Sustainability Advisor from local company Instep, with scientists who "like to get their hands dirty".  Coaching was definitely the highlight of the Pilot programme. The Instep crew provides a wealth of practical information and tips that may even save you money. If this sounds like you, get in quick to secure a space. 

Step 3 is for those who are ready to take it even further . Our team has achieved EKOS zero carbon certification for DC – if you too are keen to forge ahead,  let us know.
