Young Portrait Prize Success

Congratulations to JohnLuka Doherty whose image of Joey Boylan, basketball coach at The High School, was placed first in his category of the Young Portrait Prize 2020.  There were over 1,000 entries from across the country for the two major competitions.  The award-winning mixed-media portrait is currently hanging in the National Gallery along with the other shortlisted works.  We offer JohnLuka our warmest congratulations on this significant achievement and wish him every success in his future career.

Form 4 Home Economics

Pupils in Form 4 who are studying Culinary Skills produced a delicious dish inspired by Asian cuisine consisting of deep-fried chips, chicken, red and green peppers, sliced chili peppers, fried onions, with a variety of spices. Well done, everyone!

Form 4 Construction Studies

Form 4 Construction Studies pupils recently made these delightful tree ornaments using pyrography tools, adding a festive touch that everyone loves at Christmas time.

HSD Web Design

A number of pupils from Form 4 have now completed their Web Design course.  They created and designed a product brand and logo, marketed their original content across various social media platforms, and integrated the content on their website using HTML code.  Their fresh designs were checked for accesibility for the visually impaired and utilised popular colour trends.  Well done to everyone on the completion of this half-yearly course.

Form 4 Geography Brunch

The Form 4 Geography class recently completed a module on Culture and Identity. We learned about India and its diverse cultural landscape, and then finished the module with a multi-national brunch. Pupils brought in cuisine typical of many foreign countries, ranging from French toast and American beef jerky to Brazilian brigadeiros and Canadian maple syrup. In addition to being a sumptuous Covid-19 compliant second breakfast, this left us with a broadened understanding of how people eat across the world.
