www.boarding.org.uk No images? Click here Dear Members,Schools in England will have received an email from DfE on Thursday (June 17, 2021) relating to the procedure for pupils returning to boarding schools from red list countries and quarantining in their schools.This procedure is already in effect and it is anticipated that it still will be when pupils return in August/ September. This is as a result of changes to the Passenger Locator Form which took effect when the current red, amber and green list arrangements were introduced. We would like to express sincere thanks to colleagues at DfE who have worked hard to get these arrangements in place. BSA will work with SCIS and WISC to establish the procedures for Wales and Scotland. BSA also highlights to schools that if they are not equipped to offer quarantine under the strict conditions required by the guidance, then they must not allow pupils to travel directly from red list countries to the UK, as they cannot be accommodated in Government hotels if under 18. The red list is regularly updated and can be found here. Please check for the email, which comes from the Independent Education Division of the DfE and confirms new arrangements for the completion of the Passenger Locator Form (PLF). Please note that pupils will still need to carry a copy of the original MARCH LETTER. The email highlights the difference between the old and new rules, but for clarity, the system is now as follows, with the additions in bold:
Please note: this question is intended to be about quarantining in a government-approved facility rather than related to boarding school students quarantining in accommodation provided by their school (which remains mandatory under the arrangements for such students who have travelled from or through a red list country);
The email then highlights that other details and processes outlined in the March letter remain unchanged. Please ensure that pupils continue to travel with a copy of that letter, which they should present to UK Border Force officials on arrival. Failure to carry that letter may result in the pupil being denied entry. Home Office update: EUSS and the end of the Grace PeriodThe Home Office has advised it is planning to run some sessions on Microsoft Teams over the next couple of weeks on EUSS and the end of the Grace Period on June 30, 2021:
National Boarding Week - June 21-27There's just a few days left until the start of this year's National Boarding Week (June 21-27). Now in its seventh year, this year's event will focus on the importance of health and wellbeing and we'd love to see as many people as possible getting involved. In addition to our Boarders Go Green Challenge (see below), some of the activities you could undertake to support National Boarding Week might include:
If you do complete any challenges for National Boarding Week, don't forget to post them on social media, tagging us and using the hashtags #nationalboardingweek and #iloveboarding. You can download a copy of this year's National Boarding Week flyer by clicking on the image below. You can also visit the National Boarding Week page on our website for more information. Limitless Challenge: #boardersgogreenIn the run-up to National Boarding Week, many of you have been taking part in our Boarders Go Green Challenge, which launched at our Annual Conference for Heads. In partnership with Limitless, a unique brand that offers high-quality sportswear to many of our member schools, we've challenged schools to join together to walk the equivalent of the distance across Africa - approximately 7,500km. Schools can contribute to this by undertaking a series of tasks and completing them will equate to a distance walked. We've made an excellent start to the challenge, with more than 9,600km already covered. A massive thank you goes to staff and students at all of the schools who've helped us reach that figure. But that's not the end of the challenge - we want to keep going and see how far we can walk together by the end of National Boarding Week (June 21-27, 2021) and we'd love to see as many of you getting involved as possible. For more information, please visit our #boardersgogreen webpage. One-day conferences - bookings openWe still have two more one-day virtual conferences on our calendar before the end of this academic year. There is still time to book a place at Safeguarding in Sport conference, which is being led by Sacpa, on June 24, where we'll be welcoming guest speakers to look at a number of topics including ensuring safeguarding policies are properly used and adopted; positions of trust and patterns of grooming, and recognising ‘risk’ areas for all. Our final conference of this academic year, Annual Health and Wellbeing Conference, takes place on July 6. We do hope you can join us for the event, which is developed in collaboration with our Nurse Advisors. The conference content will be relevant to pastoral staff specifically tasked with student wellbeing, Matrons and School Nurses, so please do let any of your team members know who may be interested. And don't forget, if you can't join us live at either of the conferences, remember you can make a booking to receive the recordings to review at your convenience.
