World Diabetes Day is November 14 - Have You or Your Loved Ones Been Screened for Diabetes Lately?

Did you know?

The majority of people that have undiagnosed diabetes experience no symptoms at all?

1 in 2 people worldwide who have diabetes are undiagnosed?

World Diabetes Day is taking place on Monday, November 14th and this year’s focus is on the importance of screening. Early and frequent screening for common diseases and medical conditions helps to keep you in control of your health by keeping you informed. Information is power! Health screening enables you to:

  • Detect diseases or medical conditions early, providing you the opportunity to seek early treatment and care
  • Develop a holistic health plan for long-term health and wellness
  • Understand your areas of risk that could develop into future medical conditions – whether it be family history, environmental risks, associated medical risks or lifestyle risks
  • Keep a track of your health and wellness by providing a record of results over time

One common misconception surrounding diabetes is that a person who has developed diabetes will experience symptoms of the illness, prompting them to get checked. However, the majority of people that have undiagnosed diabetes experience no symptoms at all.

Screening means getting checked when you have no symptoms. Unfortunately, First Nations and Aboriginal people experience higher rates of diabetes, which makes early detection and treatment even more important.

This November 14th, take charge of your health and wellness by getting screened for diabetes. Help the International Diabetes Federation achieve their goal of one million worldwide screenings in one day. Share it on social media - #Test2Prevent.
