Autumn Edition 2016

Seeing is not believing

The RdL leadership program has us partnering with our clients to assist them in increasing their business performance through leadership development. I would like to share with you 2 brief examples of how this partnership has brought significant reward to the client.

We were called by the client to assist in identifying how the business could be better structured without compromise. After several weeks of partnering and building an understanding of the client, RdL went about preparing a business proposal for the Boards review.

With the Boards agreement, RdL went about partnering with the senior management team to implement changes in the business saving over $20m per annum.

The second example is with an offshore client. As part of the leadership program, the participants are to identify significant company issues. RdL steer the direction of the discussion and help prioritise the issues that will deliver significant return for the client.

Once again, RdL did not drive the initiative but rather partnered with the team to help them identify the root cause, develop solutions, seek buy in and then implement. RdL’s role is as a coach and guide, not the doer.

As a result of this team managed, and RdL supported project, the client saves over $12m in operating costs each year.

This is not saying that the current Leadership team is failing in their roles, it is just that some times we are all so caught up in the daily operation that we fail to see the opportunities that we are looking at each and every day.

It's all about Change

The ever changing economic environment puts companies under continual pressure to improve results, increase profits, build staff morale, increase efficiencies, and the list goes on.

The reality is, coming up with the ideas to satisfy the Boards requests are simple, it is the execution that results in the failure.

A process change is a clearly thought out change to a workplace procedure that if well executed results in significant return on the investment, however where many company fall over is they do not engage with their people when they implement the change.

An example for RdL took place some years ago when a client called in RdL to assist them with a cultural change program that had been running for 3 years but there had been no change in people’s behaviours.

Following close partnership with the client, it became clear that the client was searching for what people did wrong rather than searching for, and rewarding the right behaviours, As such the entire company had a negative mindset focus of looking for the bad rather than a positive mindset focus where everyone was looking for, and trying to copy the good.

RdL assisted with a simple change to the program and within weeks the workplace culture started to shift to what the client was seeking.
