Our New Website Has Launched

After lots of planning and support from many individuals and organisations, StreetWork has now launched its new website.  The website has adopted a new fresh look which is much easier to navigate and easier to look at regardless of the device you're using.

On the new website, you'll still find all the information you need to know about what we do, who we help and how we help. You can easily find information about our approach, social impact, social outcomes and our supporters

We'd love to hear what you think about the new site so send us your comments and feedback to info@streetwork.org.au.

A big thank you to the following people who made the launch of the new website possible:
• Nick Chadwick - UNSW Social Impact Post-Graduate Student who assisted us to get the project started
• Scott Graham - StreetWork Director
• Michael Hovardas - Yellow Brick Road for your creative input and support during the transition
• Martijn Timmer - Timmer Marketing and Northern Beaches LAC member
• Hugh Murphy - BigAir Group and North Shore LAC member
• Alice Mason - Volunteer - Social Media and Communications Coordinator

Be sure to check out our new look website at www.streetwork.org.au

Local Artists Pick StreetWork as their Charity Partner

Furniture maker Ben Percy and contemporary artist Salleigh Olsen nominated StreetWork to be the beneficiary of their Created with Care charity auction - click here for more information.  The design of the chair is Ben's signature and is created by re-sawing solid American Hickory into the desired shape. The generous seat and backrest were the perfect canvas for Salleigh’s artwork, where she uses a combination of illustrations and exposed wood to create the inspiring artwork.  The highest bid for the piece was $1,550, which went to Bron P in NSW.

“We wanted to reflect the essence of our nominated charity, StreetWork, by producing a piece which was fun and appeals to today’s youth,” said Ben.

“It’s tough being a young person these days,” explains Salleigh. “I see so many homeless people on Sydney’s streets every day – without a supportive home environment providing guidance and good role models young people can easily fall into a downward spiral – I saw it a lot when I was growing up. It’s so great that there are organisations now like StreetWork who help young people give hope to their future. The illustrations on the art piece resemble this.”

Thank you to Ben, Salleigh and the winning bidder for supporting us in our bid to turn more young lives around!

Some stories about the Young People we support

Story 1 - 15 year old female

This young person joined our KickStart Mentoring Program 18 months ago when she had a serious relationship breakdown with her mother. This breakdown, in conjunction with other personal issues, saw her regress back into self-harm.

Achievements

The Young Person has made huge progress in recent months such in relation to building her self-confidence, learning how to manage her study commitments and finding strategies to prevent conflict between herself and her mother.

Our Support

StreetWork is helping this young person put in place an extended support network so that there is always someone she can reach out to when in need.

Story 2 - 17 year old male

This young person self-referred follwoing a domestic violence issue directed by him towards his mother and that he could no longer live at home with her.  He is currently trying to complete Year 12 and is preparing for his HSC exams.

Goals

The young person's main goal is to complete his HSC examinations this year and to hopefully start tertiary studies in the future.

Our Support

StreetWork is also helping this young person source long-term stable accommodation while assisting him to obtain his own Medicare card.

Story 3 - 15 year old twin brothers

This story is centred on twin brothers who recently immigrated to Australia who were referred to StreetWork by Family and Community Services, due to their disengagement from school and involvement in crminal activities.

Goals

One brother's goal is to support his mother by getting a part-time job so that he can help bring income into the home. The second borther's goal is to re-engage with school.

Our Support

StreetWork is working with both brother's so achieve their goals through weekly mentoring sessions and support with employment skills and school attendance respectively.

Save the Date

Our annual fundraising event is the Glam n Grunge gala ball. Its not your typical fundraiser.... more like a big party, in a pop-up venue; in a vacant warehouse or car park. In 2015, Mitchell Anderson from The Voice performed and entertained the guests with great support from our MC, John Mangos.  More than 350 guests attended the event raising nearly $80,000 to help more 'at risk' young people. This year we want to have 400+ guests at the event and our fundraising target is $150,000, so we hope you can help us reach these targets.

For more information about attending, sponsorship opportunities, volunteering or donating items for the live and silent auctions, please email events@streetwork.org.au or call 9419 7559 and ask for a member of the Events Team. ... for more information click here.

Volunteer Positions Available

StreetWork is looking for supporters who are interested in joining our North Shore and Northern Beaches Local Advisory Councils (LACs). The LACs are formed by local community members who are passionate about helping 'at risk' young people to turn their lives around and have the time and networks to assist with fundraising and raising the profile of StreetWork locally.

If you are interested in a position on the Local Advisory Council and want more information please email info@streetwork.org.au.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Successful Grants so far this year

StreetWork is predominately reliant on donations from individuals, corporations and foundations and successful grant applications as we do not received any recurrent government funding for the services we deliver to 'at risk' young people.  So far this year we have received funding from the following grant providers and partners:

Barclays Foundation - Seed funding for our next branch in Hornsby

Westpac Staff Matching Program - KickStart Program (Northern Beaches)

St Michael’s Football Club (Charity Partnership) - front-of-jersey sponsor and KickStart Mentoring Program (North Shore)

Northbridge Rotary Club (Sydney Education Enterprise funding) - to support young people with their vocational educational skills

Yellow Brick Road (Willoughby) - KickStart Mentoring Program (North Shore)

Help Street Foundation - KickStart Mentoring Program (North Shore)

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (Chatswood) - KickStart Mentoring Program (North Shore)

Make a donation

When you donate to StreetWork, you support our efforts to help young people turn their lives around.  All donations, large and small, are used to benefit the 'at risk' young people that we support.  We use our existing income for daily running costs, so your donation is used where it's needed most and all donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductible.

How your donation supports 'at risk' young people

Our annual running costs are more than $300,000 with over 85% of all donations used to deliver services directly to young people in need.
