SAC Nominations Due TomorrowThe School Advisory Council serves as an advisory body to the Board of Trustees and provides recommendations regarding educational goals and activities or programs that generate greater cooperation between the community and the school. In addition, this council provides ongoing evaluation of the educational programs of the school. We need your help nominating parent representatives! IDEA1 Grand Opening- Proceeds Support UDA Foundation!Check out the brand new apartments and commercial space at IDEA1, enjoy local food and beverage samples, AND support The UDA Foundation at the same time. Our neighbors at IDEA1 would like to invite us to their grand opening on December 7, and donate proceeds to The UDA Foundation! We are excited to support the opening of our newest downtown neighbor, and hope to see you there! Book Fair- Volunteers NeededSaddle up and read! Our Wild West themed book fair will run from Monday, December 4 through Friday, December 8. Students and families may browse the selection and make purchases each day (M, T, Th, F) in the morning from 7:30am-9am and afternoon from 2:30-4:30pm. On Wednesday, the book fair will be open from 7:30-9am, and then again from 1:45-4pm. We are in need of volunteers to help with sales this week. Please sign up here to help! Uniform Compliant OuterwearThe temperatures are dropping, so please remind your students to bring solid color, graphic free, outerwear to school to comply with our dress code. T-Shirt Design CompetitionThis year’s Jog-A-Thon will be held on Wednesday, February 7, and we need our students’ help designing a custom t-shirt for this exciting event! Students may work on their designs from now through the end of December, and voting will take place after winter break to determine the school favorite. The t-shirt should include our school name, school year, and title of the event- the rest is up to our students’ imagination! Gala ThemeYour votes are in! The theme of the 2017-2018 UDA/ID8 Gala is...Sky’s the Limit! Stay tuned for more details and opportunities to help with the planning of this UDA Foundation event. Middle School AwardsIn celebration of our students’ progress during the first trimester, the Middle School Awards Assembly will be held on Thursday, December 7 at 8:15am on the Patio. Art ClubThe next session of Art Club hosted by Ms. Jelena will begin Thursday, December 14. This free, after-school club will meet on Thursdays during the second trimester from 3:00pm (elementary) or 3:15pm (middle school) until 4:15pm. Students who do not currently have Visual Arts class are eligible to join. Interested 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th graders must submit an application to Ms. Jelena by Thursday, December 7, and parents must complete the online interest form. Applications received after December 7 will not be considered. Intramural SoccerThe first session of intramural soccer with Coach G. concluded last Friday. The next session will begin after winter break, and registration details will be shared soon. Students that were waitlisted for the first session will be given priority for the second. Wednesday Boot Camp Drop-InWired Fitness KIDZ Boot Camp is now offering drop-in classes from 12-2pm on Wednesdays. If registering for an entire trimester doesn’t work for you or your child’s schedule, your child has the option to partake in this Wednesday Programming fitness class as little or as often as needed. Register here for a drop-in class! ID8 Information NightIdeate High Academy would like to invite families to attend a school tour and informational evening on Monday, December 4 from 6-7pm. This is a great opportunity to meet with administration and learn more about our high school’s programming. Third GradeLast week, 3rd graders went to college for an afternoon! They visited the Planetarium at City College and saw the stars come to life through a lecture with Professor Lisa Will. Students identified the constellations they studied in their Stories in the Stars project and were excited to make connections with neighbors in the community. Fourth GradeFourth grade students recently visited the Natural History Museum to extend learning for The Amazing Race Project, a project about the regions in California. The students had a great time researching! Sixth GradeOur 6th graders participated in the ABC Youth Foundation 1,000,000 Punches from the Heart at the San Diego Police Department Headquarters, with a message of punching out racism, gang violence, and mistrust of the police. A Message from Network ParentsOn Friday, December 8, join us for an evening of skating and fun from 5-7pm at Skate World in Linda Vista. Skate World will be shutting down just for UDA! The cost for skaters is $10, and $5 for non-skaters. Tickets will be sold at UDA the week of December 4. Online Uniform Orders Have ArrivedItems that were ordered on or before October 31 have been delivered! Please stop by the front office to retrieve your order. Spelling BeeThis year, UDA’s annual spelling bee will be held on Friday, January 26. Teachers have distributed spelling bee information/registration packets, and extra copies of these packets and the word lists will be located in the front office. Interested students should submit signed entry forms to Ms. Dalesandro (4th grade) on or before Friday, December 15, 2017 (The day before Winter Break). Students who submit entry forms after this date will not be permitted to participate in the Bee. Happy spelling! When: Friday, January 26, 2018 @ 8:30am Geography BeeIt is time to put geography skills to the test in UDA’s annual National Geographic Bee! Students in grades 4-8 will compete for a chance to move forward to the California state level, hosted by National Geographic. Fourth through 8th grade students who are interested in participating in the Geography Bee should sign and return the registration form to Mr. Clay by December 15, 2017. The qualifying round, held at UDA, will take place on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 8:45am in Mr. Clay's room. Top Notch LunchesTo order a hot lunch for your child, please visit www.topnotchlunches.com to create an account for your child and place online orders. User accounts from last year do not carry over, so all parents must register for the 2017-2018 year. To register, click on “Order Online Today” from the homepage, then select “Register.” On this page, you will need to enter the password for UDA, which is URA6. Upon entering the password, you will be able to complete the registration process by creating your own username and password. Families that meet the free or reduced qualification according to this form will receive discounted Top Notch lunches. The discount will be automatically applied to each order. Online orders must be placed by 6pm on the day before the lunch delivery. Top Notch can not supply lunches requested after this deadline.
